We recently rented a cute house in Galveston, beautifully remodeled by the HGTV Property Brothers, for a family trip with our three kids (ages 12, 14, and 17). While the decor was charming, our experience was marred by cleanliness and maintenance issues.
Cleanliness Concerns
Upon arrival, we found the house dirty. Thankfully, the listing advised us to bring our own cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and trash bags, which we didâthank goodness! There was overflowing trash in the backyard, mold in the bathroom, and hair left in the shower from previous guests. Just gross!
Misleading Amenities:
The Keurig coffee maker was broken, which was frustrating as we had brought our own coffee pods. The listing inaccurately stated the grill was charcoal, but it was gas, leading to wasted money. Additionally, none of the outdoor lights worked, preventing us from fishing off the dock at night.
We felt we spent more than it was worth and would rate this experience a 3/5. I urge future guests to come prepared with their own cleaning supplies.
We enjoyed our brief time at the house. The house was nice and cozy and just like the pictures showed. We would definitely stay there again. Kind of felt like when we would visit grandmas house as kids .. we all slept great as well. The keyless lock entry was nice as we got there a little early and went right in.
This home is absolutely Beautiful, there is no doubt! It certainly has "The Brothers" stamp on it from the moment you walk through the door ~ at least on the upper level! The Electric Toilets ~ what a wonderful invention. Beds were comfortable, refrigerator a plus and home was very clean. However... the lower level rusted out furniture could use replacing, none of the lower level furniture was cleaned. Sliding Master Bedroom Door was off the rail when we arrived ~ had to take it completely off, my husband fixed it and put if back up. You must be responsible for bringing garbage can liners, K-Cups for Keurig Coffee Pot, they don't provide them for the house, I found this to be very strange! Some of the light bulbs were burned out on various fixtures, including lower dock lights. Lower Dock Hose didn't work ~ we investigated the hose and location to see if it was just turned off but, still no water source. Bathroom Towels could use upgrading.
We had a very nice time together, it is a beautifully decorated home but, there were too many little unnecessary, unmanaged things that needed attention. Upper deck was not set up before our arrival...all the cushions for outdoor furniture were in a wooden box!
Management sent a representative over to the house on Saturday during our stay, to change out the Propane tanks for BBQ, which meant they weren't full before our arrival. All these things help support a weekend for us, our 28th wedding anniversary, that wasn't ideal!!
This home is stunning! It will make you want to go home and redecorate! The beds are so comfortable and cozy. We enjoyed our stay and had alot of room for visiting. Highly recommended staying here!
We visit Galveston at least twice a year this home was the cleanest and most comfortable house weâve stayed in this far. The beds are extremely comfortable! The house was perfect!! We will be booking this house again for our next stay!!
Beautiful property sitting on the bay. Definitely has most amenities needed for a quick weekend get away. Weather was perfect for Galveston events. Some items were addressed with Coastal Waves that need attention. Look forward to returning again!
The details for check in were lovely. However, after we arrived a day late the door would not unlock. The management kept saying it was because we were checking in too early in the day. I kept having to explain - we paid for last night - this is not early. As we came in the place was beautiful and very clean. However, as we began to use things we realized many things didn't work.
The refrigerator ice maker was broken. the tv in the bunk room was shattered. One of the toilets with automatic seats would not go down.
When I let the management company know of the refrigerator the reply was a rude - "you are just telling us now! you checked in yesterday". Then I had to remind him
no you just let me in 15 minutes ago cuz the combination lock on the door wouldn't work remember?
I let them know of the tv being shattered, and no one ever replied. We did not need it but goodness, if I owned this house I would hope someone would notice a shattered tv.
None of the solar lights worked outside. Most of the large outside lights are burned out - I believe only the small lights come on. The cushions for the furniture are mostly destroyed. A neighbor asked us to let the management company know that there is an alarm in the garage that has continuously been going off. Just seems it is beautiful - too bad it is not maintained. Not sure if anyone managing it actually goes by to see it.
