Amazing hotel! Breakfast very tasty and scrambled eggs done for you. Room and hotel interior beautifully designed with so many lovely details. Place with great history. Parking a few minutes walk, must be booked with hotel. A bit noisy in the evening / early morning - as location in the centre (appreciate that ear plugs were provided).

We loved 1898 The Post! The staff were incredible, very friendly and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and really unique. Our room had gorgeous 20 feet or higher windows. The breakfast quality was fantastic, something about the food just tasted better than our other hotels we stayed at. Checkout the cocktail bar for a signature drink, they were also fantastic. One thing to be aware of our room had the shower and sink upstairs. It was no problem for us, but if you have mobility challenges, you should request a room with out this.

The hotel was very cool but we got there around 1PM and they told us check in was at 4 which we already knew but after checking a couple times before 4 they kept telling us it wasn’t going to be ready until 4…you’d think they’d be a bit more accommodating…at exactly 4 they told us our room was ready.

Stylish and very comfortable hotel with exceptionally lovely staff. The building is very characterful and imposing. Great breakfast. Cleanliness impeccable. Secure wifi. The beds are pretty firm while the pillows are the very soft kind that seem to be the norm in Belgium and the Netherlands, but the staff will find you a mattress topper if you need one. Rooms are well equipped with many cold drinks, a kettle and a coffee machine. The teabags are Mariage Freres. Just a few quibbles. Because the rooms’ ceilings are so high, the bathroom is on a mezzanine level, while the toilet is on the lower level, and there is no handbasin in the toilet- you have to walk upstairs to wash your hands which is not so much fun in the middle of the night, and either the staircase is pitch black or you turn the staircase light on which also lights up the bathroom and actually lights up the entire bedroom, disturbing your partner. The internal staircase needs to be better lit as the stairs are in shadow when you’re coming down. The breakfast is served in a room which acts as a bar the rest of the day and is furnished with low armchairs and sofas. If you’re really unlucky you end up trying to eat your breakfast with the table up under your chin. Lastly, this is not a hotel for the mobility-impaired as there’s no way to avoid having to walk up about 10 stairs to reach reception.

A wonderful hotel in Ghent with a quirky room set up (ours not for anyone with mobility issues since there are stairs) and truly exceptional service. We knew we were in for a treat from the minute we arrived and the receptionist walked us to our room, which had a waiting waffle. The staff was always smiling,warm and welcoming. The room overlooked one of the large town squares but we never worried about sound because of the double windows. Dramatic height room with a loft, where the sink and shower were. We did have a bit of a ick factor since the downstairs toilet meant others may have used the hand railing with unsanitized hands on their way to the sink, foregoing the readily available hand sanitizer dispenser in the bathroom. We were careful and used hand sanitizer. Big shower with fluffy towels, robes and slippers. Fantastic location to explore Ghent. Quick walk to boat rides. Right in the middle of the beautiful parts of town. Supermarket below the gorgeous building. Delicious breakfast each morning with made to order eggs. Highly recommend staying here.

Lovely, centrally located hotel in a beautiful historic building in the very centre of Ghent. The hotel is well furnished in a style complimenting its age, the breakfast was very nice and bedroom, although on the small side was well appointed. the staff were very professional, helpful and pleasant, I would happily return and recommend it to any future guests.

Not a true 5 Star hotel. Very dark. Decor trying to be atmospheric but really just old junk Attempting to be charming. But it’s not. No restaurant. Breakfast was very, very good but pricey. Room had a great view and was quiet but very small. And dark. No siting area. Shower and sink was in loft area up steep stairs. No sink or place to wash your hands downstairs where toilet was located. Hand sanitizer was provided. Like in a port-a-potty. Ick. Did not like that layout AT ALL. Carpet in hallways and elevators etc. was very worn out and shabby. Entry- reception area hard to find and strange. The hotel definitely needs an update and sprucing up. Best thing about it was the location.
