Kauai ocean view home near Tunnels & Lumahai Beach

Traveling north past Hanalei, you enter the dense jungle and intense blue waters of Kauai's far north shore. There are no words that can describe nature's beauty in this region. Many beaches, including tunnels and ke'e, are in the area. Trail heads for some of the most memorable hikes on earth are nearby. The ocean view from the home is spectacular.

The Wainiha beach house brings you old style Hawaii in a jungle setting with a stream flowing in your back yard. Built in 1963 of Polynesian design, the house was the dream of Peggy Slater, known as the Amelia Earhart of sailing. Waterfalls, rainbows, crashing surf, fragrant flowers and exotic colorful birds will surround you. Please note: If you are sensitive to noise, the home is located on a "slow driving" section of Kuhio Highway which at certain times of the day you can hear the passing cars going over the one lane bridge. Home has high speed wireless internet, phone, cable tv, and full kitchen.

BEACH ACCESS: The beach in front of house that you see in the pictures is not accessible. The closest public beach access is 1/4 mile drive either direction from house. Tunnels beach (one of the most scenic beaches in the world is 1/2 mile away.

Bedroom 1 has a King bed. Bedroom 2 has a King bed and Bedroom 3 has a Queen bed. There is A/C in the master bedroom.
PLEASE NOTE: The bedrooms in the home are "railroad style" meaning they run in a row. Keep this in mind as it is more suitable for those not requiring lots of privacy between the bedrooms.

Rates do not include taxes, cleaning and applicable fees.

Amazing location and house!
Perfect Hawaiian getaway. The house was so unique and classic Hawaiian feel. Excellent location. Didn’t ever want to leave. Being able to walk to the general store and coffee shop was so fun.

Classic
This is a Classic Hawaiiana home. Yes there is traffic but when everyone goes home for the day you hear the sound of the waves. We felt quite at home here.

Great beach house vibe!
Pros: super awesome beach house vibe and decor! This place had everything we needed for a fun and relaxing North Shore stay. Cons: the railroad style layout. I don't recall this in the listing when we booked, so we were surprised when we arrived. Just a bit awkward when you're staying with your kiddo and in-laws and can literally hear what's going on in the bathroom and room next door all through the night. And the road/bridge crossing is louder than expected especially if you're a light sleeper (noise cancellation app works wonders though!)

Perfect for us!
My husband and I shared the Master bedroom. Our 2 adult sons shared the other bathroom and each had a bedroom. We ALL loved the home, beds, and location. If you are concerned about privacy and a gourmet kitchen- this place probably wouldn't delight you like it did us. Conversely if you want to feel surrounded by jungle, have an awesome view, be a bit removed from people, and can manage just fine with a bare bones kitchen (I didn't come to cook, I came to snorkle) this place is worth the stay. I had been concerned that it might be a bit shabby or weird- but it was absolutely perfect for us.

Very cool traditional home by the ocean
This property was perfect for our group! We enjoyed the vintage vibe and decor. We appreciated the books, games, nice dishes. It was fun to cook together and play games after a day exploring. The beds are super comfy, the landscaping is pretty, and the sound of rhe ocean while we slept was very nice! Bit of noise from the bridge, but we didn't mind. Everything we needed was there. I am very happy that we found this property for our Kaui visit. Mahalo!

North Shore Old Hawaii
This is a great property! Like a prior guest said: it's like staying at a friend's old beach house. We always appreciate being off the beaten path. The cross breeze kept the house wonderfully cool and the beds were so comfortable. Wi-fi worked perfectly. The nearby market had many goodies and the smoothies were yummy. We are pretty laid back and were not bothered by the bridge traffic, frequent rooster crowing and sticky pocket doors. Most of the time there was only the blissful sound of the ocean. Three suggestions for improvement: please add table seating for 6. We do not eat on our living room furniture at home but had no choice if we wanted to eat "together". Please replace the bath towels. They smell terrible when used. A front covered area would be so lovely. The picnic bench was nice but too sunny most of the day. Mahalo!

Beautiful Hawaiian home
The house was beautiful had lots of character The beds were super comfy with beautiful linens The location was nice being able to see the ocean across the street. The big windows were really a plus. A lot of great beach toys for the kiddies The kitchen had the basics but was missing a peeler which I needed often. And the knives were pretty dual. There is a cute market walking distance down the road with lots of goodies that was really nice and convenient. This property is located very north on the island which I love because it feels secluded and jungle like, beautiful views of the mountains and very close to one of my favorite beaches (tunnels) about 5 miles north-parking fulls up fast so go early! Or later in the day There is a list of things they would like you to do before you leave more than I’m used to seeing. Which included- Wash and dry towels Strip the beds Wash dishes- which i think is pretty standard Overall the good definitely outweighs the bad this is just my very honest option and things I think renters should know. I think the price is fare comparing it to other stays on the island. Mahalo!
