Booked a superior King room but unfortunately the room seemed like an average size with no view (there was a wall directly outside our window blocking sun/sky view). Apart from that the stay was great, the room was clean and the breakfast was nice with good selection of foods and drinks. Loved the later checkout time at 11AM. Hotel was very quiet and in an amazing location.

Very clean room,quiet. Helpful staff. Very adequate continental breakfast. Helensburgh has places worth visiting notably Hill House and the midget submarine museum.

The twin room that we stayed in needed maintaining in many areas, rusty bathroom bin and toilet brush holder, lots of black mould in the shower, taps loose and sink taking a long time to drain. We also felt that the see through glass door to the en-suite allowed no privacy. Live TV were pixelated luckily we could watch Wi-Fi channels. There also needs to be a second bedside lamp. The communal areas of the hotel could do with a really good clean and the breakfast was very basic.

Moved rooms 3 times because rooms were not fit for purpose. The first rooom had no water coming through the basin hot tap at all (and had a view over wasteland and derelict buildjngs). The second room sash window wouldn't close and the heating did not work, making the room freezing cold, and smelling greasy because the kitchen extractor fan was directly outside. The third room was a tiny twin (we had booked a double bed!) with a dreadful view of a drain pipe and metal trellis covered in fake greenery and false lawn. The shower tile grouting was filthy yellow.

This hotels investment in their social media campaign has paid off big time. While there are lots of Instagram opportunities, the actual stay was not impressive. The room was VERY very very small but also had ridiculously high ceilings so it was a strange optical illusion. The mattress was lumpy with some strange cover- I was going to look at what it consisted of but then thought I better not. The record players are decorative only. The windows must stay open because it’s very hot but then you hear the traffic signal blaring. Make sure you get down to breakfast early- they set out 4 slices of ham, 4 slices of cheese, a few pastries, and some cold boxes of cereal- if you’re not one of the lucky ones then there’s nothing left. We did not feel that our vehicle was safe as there is no parking lot. It was extremely disappointing.

Postives- Room was small but very clean. Bed very comfortable. Staff very friendly. Nice bar area for drinks. Negatives- Shower didn’t work spoke to staff but never got fixed during our stay. Continental breakfast very basic tea/coffee from a flask, luke warm & sitting for long time. Pastries not fresh.

Weekend stay

Location was great, Room was dirty, the bathroom specifically with fresh mould growing in many areas of the shower and dirt , hair etc all around the toilet , room not hoovered during our stay, Was was very average and even had to return a salad because it had be served on the main plate which was very hot so salad was wilted and warm, when replaced the same salad had just been put on a cold plate. The bed was well overdue needing replacement.

A relaxing week

We spent 5 days at Riva . The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel if very easily accessible from the train station. If we were ever in Helensburgh again we would certainly stay Thanks to all the staff for their kindness

Great Stay with great food

Hotel was amazing very good service, great food and great breakfast, amenities where very good, record player, fan, coffee machine in room great touch. Very welcoming. However room was very small but amenities made up for it.

The room was tiny! The bed was soft & sloping & we both awoke several times in the night due to its discomfort. The view was of some abandoned buildings at the back of the hotel. The food was mediocre.

The tiny bedroom was a joke. three quarter bed in a single bedroom is not fit as a double. No wardrobe, no mirror and no room to move around or get changed. Advertised as breakfast included but failed to say it was only continental. Feel robbed Never again

We were lucky to visit Scotland when we were having lovely weather about 20 degrees. However our room was on the top floor which meant it was very hot. The window wouldn't open very wide due to the design and the curtains. There was a fan in the room but it was just blowing the hot air around. It would have been nice if the room was attempted to have been cooled prior to our arrival. We were also next to the laundry room and the washing machines were spinning at gone 22:30 at night making everything in the room shake. Appreciate this may be a one off occurrence but it did severely impact our stay especially as we were struggling to sleep in the heat anyway. I let the hotel know in the mornight, but didn't feel they were apologetic and just said it's unusual weather. If visiting in summer months it's worth bearing in mind.

Check in gave us a room which was inconvenient (3 flights of stairs), and Very Small. Another desk clerk later corrected that and gave us a more suitalbe room. Staff was great, facilities are old, with the exception of the bathrooms.
