Muskoka Waterfront Retreat
Rustic and luxuriously decorated. Nestled on the shores of a beautiful boutique lake. Fun activities can be found in Port Carling or neighbouring Bala, including great shopping, dining, entertainment (the famous Kee to Bala) and attractions from historic steamships to museums. The area also boasts a number of first rate golf clubs, resorts and parks (Torrance Barrens or Hardy lake for hiking). Also handy is the always bustling Glen Orchard General Store, just a five minute walk away.
A nicely appointed cottage with a bit more to be desired.
This property is very conveniently located to Bala and Port Carling where you will find stores for all your needs. The property sits on Butterfly Lake which is a beautiful quiet lake to look out on. There are the occasional boats that go by, but not in any disturbing way. The cottage itself is cozy and comfortable with classic wood finishing on the inside to give it that real cottage feel that we loved. There were a few things that should be pointed out. On our stay the bedrooms did not have curtains so for those that like a dark room to sleep in this should be considered. The property is situated steps from hwy. 169 so beware there is traffic noise through the day and especially during morning and evening times when people are going to and from work. We also found the cost per night at around 1K with fees didn't reflect the location so for this reason we give this property a 7.5 out 10 rating.
What an awesome experience. Shavanna is an awesome host with great communication. Right on the water, lake is great for swimming, close to Port Carling. We absolutely loved it.
Beautiful spot with incredible view. Just a few minor details overlooked. More cooking pots/pans would be handy, as well as additional tea, towels, washcloths, and dish cloths. A recommendation might be to cut back the trees in the entrance slightly as to allow for a safer exit onto busy roadway. Overall, Wonderful for a relaxing vacation. Paddle boards on site were certainly appreciated.
This was the perfect cottage for our week in Muskoka. The location on a small lake close to Port Carling was ideal. We loved the dock and swimming in particular.
The cottage was very clean, with spacious rooms and a well-stocked kitchen. We had a few questions after our arrival and the host was very responsive.
The cottage does not have potable water so guests should bring bottled water for drinking.
Had a great time at this cosy cottage. The waterfront was beautiful and it was a very convenient location. Shavanna was quick and courteous in all communication. Only small issue was the proximity to highway 169. We had to keep a close eye on kids.
Can not say enough great things about this cottage. Perfect size and location and on a perfect lake for recreational boating and swimming. The kids had a blast and Savannah was extremely prompt and helpful before and during our stay. Will be looking at the same cottage next year.
Good little hide away...has lots of potential for Rest and Relaxation
We have enjoyed our time here and away from our daily routine. The waterfront is amazing and the property is beautiful, having all the conveniences without the rush. The Lake, the firepit, the porch/deck and spacious inside were definitely enjoyed by our party of 8! We would recommend a few more daily towels for our week long stay and potentially some ceiling fans to help move the air in the house (as the temperature did reach up to 38 degrees over our 6 days) - though we knew there was no A/C (some portable fans were provided). (just a few future planning options). The availability of shade throughout the property was greatly appreciated (given the temperature), it allowed the 8 of us to move throughout the property. The host made herself accessible if needed. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our water time/campfires/deck and time with family and friends.

Nice property with dock on the lake, fire pit, lots of trees , beautiful lake, 8 minutes from Port C
Owners is fabulous, nice clean property, lots of trees with a dock on Butterfly lake only minutes to Port Carling and 25 minutes to Bala. Going back soon. Wife wants to sell and move there. Nice covered deck facing the lake.
We really enjoyed our time here. The cottage was a great size for our family - though we didn't spend too much time indoors. Having 2 bathrooms was a super convenient! The kitchen was stocked with plenty of dishes and pans. We had a great time with the paddleboards, which we didn't know were available when we first booked.
It's in a great location - close to the grocery store and downtown Port Carling and nearby Bala. There are lots of trees surrounding the cottage, so there is plenty of privacy - you don't even feel like there are neighbours. It is off of a highway, so you do hear traffic as you sit by the water, but otherwise, it was great. We miss the view already!
Friends and I rented this over the long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is exactly as advertised, beautiful. It is off a fairly busy road, so you do hear some traffic. The location is perfect, a walk to the nearest store, and short drive to both Bala and Port Carling. The dock and the lake are a dream. We werenât able to have a fire and unexpectedly had to leave a night early, which was a bummer but everything else made up for it. Shavanna was friendly and accessible. Would absolutely rent again without reservation. Stunning place!
