Tigh na Maraiche, named âHouse of the Marinersâ in Gaelic, in recognition of the sea-faring crofters who lived there over the generations, is tucked away in the tiny crofting community of Keils, just a short distance from the main village of Craighouse.
Youâll love relaxing in the wee sunroom, whilst listening to the sounds of the sea in the distance. There are two stone buildings, one which offers storage for bikes and kayaks, the other houses the utility room, with freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Just a five-minute walk down the hill and youâre on the shore looking over the very picturesque Small Isles Bay â you can also catch a good glimpse of the bay from the garden of Tigh na Maraiche.
Beyond the islands in the bay, Knapdale can be seen on the mainland, separated from Jura by the stretch of water known as the Sound of Jura. Another five minutes along the road, takes you into Craighouse, the only village on Jura, where there is a hotel, the world-famous Jura Distillery, the village shop/post office, and a gift shop/tearoom. Climb the famous âPapsâ of Jura and explore the miles of endless mountain.
The property had everything we needed. Sitting outside in the evening was very nice.
The log burner was cosy after the sun went down.
It was only a few minutes drive to the local shop and distillery.
That being said, some mould remover and a lick of paint wouldn't go amiss.
shop and distillery.
Old Croft which has been passed down through generations. Modernised and has everthing you need without spoiling the original building. We had fabulous weather so never needed heating. The beighbours ate lovely included visiting deer. We felt the croft was domething special
