A one week stay in Pothia

The main town and ferry port of Pothia is a good place to stay. Very attractive small town with lots of great places to eat, explore and relax. Kalymnos is not really a place for avid beach fans but there are several small and pretty shingle/sand, uncrowded beaches where one can sunbathe and swim. These can be reached by taxi, hired car or sometimes by bus( while I was there, there was a big problem with the buses). This small island, along with many other Greek islands are still suffering from the economic problems of the 2008 financial world crash and illegal migration but the people are warm, friendly and welcoming to families, couples and those travelling alone. Only downside, when walking in Pothia is having to avoid fast moving cars and scooters that hare through the narrow streets, without pavements, in Pothia. This island is also a very good place for serious rock climbers. My English friend who now lives there says it is very safe place to live with a very low crime rate and any few signs of any hostility to visitors.
