Heavenly Hideout at Rainbows End Key West - Steps from Duval w Private Pool
Welcome to the end (and the beginning) of the road. There arenât many places in the world where you can say youâre both beginning and ending your journey at the same time. But when you rent this Heavenly Hideout at Rainbowâs End, youâre spot on, and you can do exactly that.
This tropically tantalizing penthouse is literally the first and last vacation rental on U.S. Highway 1, where the route gently peters-out to become charming, historic Whitehead Street in Key West. In case you didnât know, Highway 1 on the East Coast of the U.S.A. stretches over 2000 miles from the top of Maine near the Canadian border to the Southernmost Island City in the continental United States, and since Key West, Florida is at the âbottom of the mapâ the signage reads âEND.â
Popular Key West mythology maintains, âThe end of the road promises new beginnings,` for all who capture the spirit of the rainbowâs end. Itâs true that visitors from all over the world come for a photo opt of this charming scene which has become an island icon. Not just for snap-shots at the famous Mile 0 road markers, but also to admire the exotic grandfather Kapok tree standing proud in front of the steadfast 1890 red brick courthouse and the colorful vintage sign that reads âEND OF THE RAINBOW â AND END OF THE ROUTE U.S. 1 KEY WEST FLORIDA â UNLIMITED OPPORTUNITIES â TROPICAL VACATIONLAND.â Whatever you believe or wherever youâre from, you can choose to stay by this famous rainbowâs end, comfortably hidden away in a stylish Penthouse suite and enjoy four-star hotel amenities.
When you rent this beautiful one-of-a-kind penthouse hideout youâll be enveloped in original artistic flare done-up for leisure and luxury. This place is a statement of what I love about embracing the special possibilities of living an urban life-style on the tiny island of Key West. I like the feeling of being downtown in the midst of it all, yet quietly perched above the crowd with a birds-eye view. Nestled in the top of a welcoming historic house with all the comforts of a modern 4-Star hotel suite, this hidden retreat is discretely situated in one of the most desirable and convenient locations. Plus, it has an unbeatable look-down view of one of the most fashionable urban corners on the island. A view of the gorgeous old brick courthouse and famous Mile 0 scene is out the front, an expansive deck and tropical garden overlooks the back, complete with a banana grove and crimson Royal Poinciana Tree.
Interior Design: Sometime during the last decade, the floor plan was reconfigured to essential modern standards that included beautiful hardwood floors and plenty of sash windows in every room to let in the light. But what it had gained in potential it lacked in luster and individuality, until an inspired decorating effort took it over-the-top.
A creative collaboration began with local artists and builders, both inside and out. The distinctive interior focal points are two custom life-sized hand painted murals by folk artist David Wegman, and his brother Jim Wegman who are known for their Key West and Caribbean art. One piece encompasses a large wall in a living room/ kitchen area and features the Mile 0 monument with all its prominent characteristics; the other a fabulous fantasy garden mural is painted in a bedroom and gives a convincing illusion of sleeping in a magical tropical garden.
Youâll feel as if youâve left home far behind the minute you walk up the steps to the front door of this completely redone early 1900âs wooden island house. Tropical landscaping and pretty Caribbean coral color siding with light blue front porch ceiling make certain youâre staying in a little bit of Key West history. The main entrance to the penthouse is from the front porch through the door that takes you immediately to the 2nd floor via a beautiful traditional wooden staircase. The landing at the top of the stairs leads to you to your colorful hidden haven.
A colorful hallway leads you to the main open concept kitchen / living room overlooking the back deck. Furnishings for the cozy room were selected for their retro 1960âs style, complete with apple green davenport and oval shaped coffee table. The full kitchen offers everything you need to cook, and to assure you can sit and share a meal together, a drop leaf table can easily be pulled out and chairs placed around.
When your group is ready to spread out, you can spill into the 2nd great-room space, that we call the âred room.â Thoughtfully decorated with island style imports, art work was chosen to bring the feeling of the outside indoors. A large original Dominican painting of a colorful parrot is prominently displayed on one wall, while a painting of a vase full of red hibiscus hangs on the other. It also has the added feature of an extra kitchen and eating island.
Bedroom One, we call the âblue room,â and it was designed to feel like a luxurious island beachside room. Set with a sea-grass headboard, white cottage-style dresser, sea inspired art work and sand-tone accessories, this large âL-Shapeâ bedroom provide a king-size bed and large walk-in closet. The private en-suite bathroom provides a double size shower and free-standing sink.
Bedroom Three, we call the âWest Indies room.â It feels very island-opulent with a grand dark wood four-poster king-size bed and dark wicker dresser set against historic green and tan walls and fancifully framed artwork. A dark wood vanity / computer table and beautiful chair are nicely tucked away in an alcove, set as a place to get some work done or do up your hair, whatever your passion may be. Thereâs also a beautiful upholstered bench at the end of the bed for added comfort. This bedroom has a walk-in closet, and the en-suite bathroom provides a double size shower and free-standing sink.
Bedroom Four, we call the âlove bird room.â Offering a queen-size bed, it reflects the ownerâs feminine love of dreamy cozy bedrooms done eclectic style in lavender, turquoise, and blue. Starting by painting the walls a color called âDreamy Cloud,â she combined wicker furniture of white and natural, a small white cottage dresser, and a precious wood patina night stand. She fell in love with a Pier One painting of colorful perching love birds placed it over the headboard then complimented it with a small original Haitian art painting, and a small French-style mirror. This bedroom offers an en-suite bathroom with bathtub and in-tub shower (with hand-wand) and a vanity sink.

The location is great, the pool is pretty small so itâs more of a sit around the sides or stand in spot if others are with you, the layout is very strange and I donât feel the description gives you an understanding of what you are getting until you see it. One set of stairs is blocked off by a dresser and unsure if others have access to your space or not. Nice but not what we expected.
Absolutely one of the best locations in KW. The place was very clean. The reason I'm rating it a four is due to the fact there weren't any amenities like other VRBO's. We thought we should have been supplied with coffee and shampoo but there wasn't any. Not a big deal just remember to bring your own. Overall... Beautiful place, great location!
What a perfect spot for our group of 4 couples! Everyone had their own space and bathrooms, plus common areas to sit and relax. The pool and outside area was lovely! Location was exceptional! Definitely coming back!
Overall we really enjoyed it here. Pros - location is great, its a block off Duvall which is nice for access to lots of shopping, restaurants. Some more positives - very easy to check in, and we were allowed a late check out to accommodate our later flight time was awesome. The property was clean and each bedroom had its own bathroom which was very nice. It was myself, my husband, and two kids (18 and 17 YO). Cons - since the property was right off Duval street it did get a little noisy late at night so that may be an issue for families with young childrenThe property was actually two apartments connected by a hallway which had a stairwell that lead to the pool and outdoor space. Since there were 4 of us, it felt a little disjointed. Each 'apartment' has two bedrooms, a living space, and kitchen. But in both of them the living space is not large at all, therefore, all four of us could not sit comfortably and watch tv when we wanted some downtime. Both kitchens were well equipped (however, no water dispenser on fridge) but we only really used one of them. If future renovations are in the forecast for management, i would recommend making one kitchen a full eat in with a large table or island and the other kitchen a large living area to accommodate a large numberDespite the lack of common living space, we did enjoy our stay. We really didn't have a ton of down time but on the occasion we did it would have been nice to spend some time together in the same room.
This is very cute 4BR, 4 full bath place, it actually 2 apts connected by doors that meet to the back yard. It is on the second floor with several steps up to living space and up from the outdoor space. It is above the rental office which made it convenient to go down and chat with people as needed (weekdays). Beds are very comfortable! Having a parking spot is great however it is not directly attached to the place, but rather close. Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend! Having the little dipping pool was perfectly awesome in the hot summer heat!
Our group had a wonderful stay here! Plenty of room for a group of 7, location was excellent, and property management was very helpful and quick to respond. I would highly recommend a stay here!
The property was cute and we had enough room for everyone. What we did not realize was the entire house was on the 2nd floor and it was 2 adjoining 2 bedroom like apartments not all one house. This was not mentioned in the rental that we saw, so luckily everyone was able to use stairs. Only other issue was the toilet oaper could of been of better quality.
We were in town for a wedding of close friends and wanted to all stay together but still feel like we had our own space - this location and house was the perfect fit. We all were able to enjoy time together but also have some independence and the location could not have been more perfect, only 2 blocks from Duval. We hope to return soon!
We had a wonderful stay at Heavenly Hideout. Location was perfect. We were able to walk almost anywhere we wanted to go. Communication with the host was always very timely. Outside space was wonderful for sipping coffee in the morning and winding down at night. House is on a fairly busy street so there is street noise at night. Definitely recommend this house for large groups.
House is beautiful, exactly as described, location was excellent and the parking spot was a plus! Loved the communication from the host, very detailed instructions on how to check in, what to do with checkout and a map to find the parking spot. Overall happy with our stay!
This property was in an excellent location. We were able to park the cars and walk for the week. The rooms were all comfortable. There was a clock in a prominent place that did not work so that was annoying. The outdoor area was very nice. We were very satisfied.
Well maintained, clean, helpful friendly staff. Layout is very user friendly and the heated pool was great with night temps in the hi 50âs. Please note that there is a long stairway from the front door to the living spaces as well as down to the pool. All four couples loved this place, walking to everywhere we wanted to go.
This is a fantastic location!!The house was clean, convenient, comfortable and had all the necc amenities. We had a wonderful time. Some sunny warm days and a couple cooler ones but overall a great place to be in the winter!!
Perfect location with everything you need. The entire rental is upstairs which isnât directly mentioned in the listing. This wasnât a problem for us but could be for some. We would rent this again.
Beautiful home, location was amazing, 1 block from Duvall. We walked everywhere! Home is equipped with everything you need. Manager answers in a timely manner when we contacted them. Nothing negative to say at all! We had a great time!
