Recess is the perfect Outer Banks vacation home for those who love the beach and enjoy a super attractive beach cottage to call their own. From the upper deck you can relax and admire the beautiful sunrises over the ocean and picturesque views of the Wright Brothers Memorial.

This 3 bedroom charmer features 2 full bathrooms, WiFi, plenty of sun decks, 2 refrigerators, a stunning floor plan, 3 picnic tables and is only 150 yards to the beach! The Outer Banks Lifesaving Station is just 150 yards away and has public showers and bathrooms.

Stop and Shop Convenience Store just 130 yards away; Dairy Queen just 100 yards away; Rental Bikes just 200 yards away and numerous dining establishments all within 2 miles.

There is a bike path out front with over 30 miles of riding marked!

Il n’y avait aucun service de base comme papier de toilette, savon a vaisselle, lingette ou linge a vaisselle, aucun tapis de bain. Le minimum habituellement fourni dans les Airbnb. J’ai vu a la derniĂšre minute qu’il fallait apporter nos serviettes de bain sinon c’était 109US .

This was the perfect little beach house for our family. Very clean and soooooooo close to the beach...an easy walk for all of us, even with chairs. Decks are perfect to enjoying the beach breezes, and the laundry room was a welcome addition to help us minimize our packing lists. I would highly recommend this rental for groups of 4-6 people!

Great location & space, BUT could use attention to property details

Great parts of property: -Location is walkable to beach with bathrooms. This accessible beach was great for bringing a wagon. -House has cold AC, nice deck with outdoor furniture -Plenty of couches for relaxing -Washer/Dryer is always a perk -2 full baths and outdoor shower -Space for a family Things that are still true from past reviews that were not addressed: -Nail sticking up in master bedroom floor -Dog hair on throw pillows, rug, washer/dryer area (more bothersome because property is listed as "pet free") -There are no longer bunk beds as pictured, now two twins, tiny dresser and one blocks the closet. Other notes about layout, etc -Laundry & extra fridge are ground level room and have access from outside only (bring a laundry basket). -To enter the property it is the stairs on the side. Prepare to be outside for unloading. -The tan recliners, when reclined, hit the blinds and the coffee table... could use a rearrange. -Master has folding doors so not a ton of privacy. -Towels are not provided for free. -Typical weekly rental property where you bring all paper products Other details that would make this 10/10: -Microwave turntable was replaced with wrong size and does not turn freely -Screen door missing closing mechanism -All but one non stick pan in rough condition. We bought a plastic spatula as there were only metal ones. -No cable working in twin room This review is not meant to discourage, just to set expectations. I also left feedback to Carolina Shores.

Overall good experience

The location and overall stay was great. My only knock on the property is that the laundry room isnt a part of the main house but instead downstairs in the parking area. You have a window of 1hr between 4pm checkin and when the property management company closes at 5PM. They did however work with me to get the code to the property. I would suggest allowing checkin to be more seamless. There is no bunk beds therefore the listing needs to be updated. Overall, we had a good experience outside those minor inconveniences.

Most of house as described

My family and I stayed in the house for 2 weeks. Some of the house needs updated. I had called regarding the linen box from the previous guests had not been picked up. It never was and there wasn’t enough room for our linens and towels. There was a nail sticking up in Master bedroom. The doors for the Master Bedroom are shutters and cannot block sound. There were 3 hornets nest that were not dealt with. Otherwise, the house served its purpose. I believe we will find another property for next year.

Cute little oasis!

Absolutely loved this house! It was the perfect size for all 5 of us and super close to the beach. One of my favorite properties I have ever stayed at in OBX. Cute little quaint house with everything you need. My only complaint was the cleanliness, I assume the family that stayed before us had a dog because the whole house was covered in dog hair. That doesn’t reflect how amazing this house was though. Sometimes that happens so it was no big deal, the property management had someone come by and clean the house up immediately. So I give this place a 11/10!!

Recess - 117 Ocean

Excellent location!!! One block to beach access and a great store at the corner to grab any snacks, liquor, beach items needed. Great amount of space for 7 of us. Large table for games and meals. Enough couches for all. Working kitchen with adequate dishes/cookware. Outdoor shower was awesome. Cute decor. Ceiling fans and AC were great keeping us cool during a heat advisory. A-frame style was beautiful, open, and spacious. Loved what the owners had done. Complaints/issues are with the property management/rental agency. A big downside was poor cleaning. There was pet hair all over the bedroom floor; all over one bed and between the bed sheets of what management assured me was fresh, cleanly made-up bed; next to, behind, and under side tables and couches in the living room; and inside the washing machine! Check-in was a pain. We had to drive 20 minutes (traffic is slow in the summer on OBX) past the property to the rental agency to receive a piece of paper with our keyless code on it. Email, phone, or text would have worked better. Attempts to “contact the host” via email through VRBO were unsuccessful. Once I had booked, they stopped responding to questions. The rental agency called multiple times to ask permission to process card on file for final balance, threatening to cancel reservation. Each time, I approved it but they didn’t charge it. It took three phone calls before it was finalized.

Great stay at a great price

This property was just as described and was very clean. There were plenty of amenities, kitchen, games, books, etc. The location is superb as you can walk to many restaurants, convenience store and the DQ for dessert. The bike path is right out front and is wide enough for safe biking and wakking with young kids. Just a great spot and sweet little place we will rent again!

Great house in Kill Devil Hills

We loved the “A” frame style of this house, it not only looked great but it offered an open and spacious living area. The location was as good as you can get without being right on the beach, only a straight shot roughly 100 yard walk to the public beach access. The beach access is also the rescue station which may make parents of smaller children feel more at ease while in the ocean. The only thing keeping this review from all 5 stars was the dog hair which was all over the floor from the previous renters.

Great location and clean property

Stayed here with our two children and their grandfather. The upstairs is sort of like a suite with its own bathroom, sitting area, and deck, and was perfect for the grandparent in our group while the rest of us stayed downstairs. The queen bed was fairly uncomfortable, but we got used to it. The twin bedroom is no longer bunk beds, but still has two twin beds. But if bunk beds or additional floor space are important to you, that’s something to consider. Walk to the beach was easy - puts you onto a beach access point with restrooms and a foot wash which was very helpful with young kids. Walked to restaurants and breweries. We are planning on returning to this house next year!

Perfect location, great house!

The house was good for our group of 7. The amenities were fine and the house is in a perfect location - 150 yards from the ocean, well-stocked Stop and Shop at the corner, and plenty of good restaurants nearby.

Great House

The house was just as described and fit our families needs! It is a very short walk to the beach which was very nice and convenient. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again for future vacations.

Wonderful location

The house was cute, clean and spacious. The location couldn’t have been any better-within walking distance to a beautiful beach and close to lots of shopping and restaurants. We had a wonderful, relaxing vacation:-)

Cute property with good location

The house was adorable. Overall well maintained. No big issues except the lights in the kids bedroom with bunk beds. The light fixtures were plug in which is fine, but the one is on the wall beside the bottom bunk with a loose cord hanging down. It was not safe for my three year old who had that bed. We went and bought paint tape to have it safely adhered to the wall without damaging anything. The kitchen was well stocked. It was a short walk to the beach. The deck was lovely, had great furniture, and a wonderful view of the sunset. Short walks to the corner store, gift shop, and a few places to eat. Also a short drive to a lot of great restaurants and places to keep my boys busy on the not so good beach days. All of the beds were comfortable. Overall, we would recommend.
