We had a lovely comfortable stay in this house. Very clean, warm, with amazing views. The road to the house takes about 10 minutes to drive up off the main road, with 3 or so gates to open and shut, but that does not really detract from the house. Lovely stay, thank you.
If you're looking for a break in a dramatic rural away-from-it-all landscape - this is it. If you don't like jumping in and out of the car to open a couple of gates on the drive up from the main road then it's maybe not for you. For us it added to the attraction!
The house has been cleverly designed with the kitchen and living room upstairs to enjoy the views and the bedrooms downstairs. The backdoor leads into a large utility room, very practical for taking off and storing walking boots and coats. The house is really comfortably and stylishly furnished and the kitchen is well-equipped. We stayed at the end of March and the weather was still quite cold, but inside the house was warm as toast.
There are loads of great walking destinations in close range. We loved High Cup Nick starting from Dufton, the other side of Appleby. A visit to Brough Castle is definitely worthwhile - added bonus of the farm ice-cream shop next door. We also had to visit Barnard Castle to have our eyes tested a la Dominic Cummings...
