Short walk to the beach. About a 10 minute walk to town. That was a major bonus for us. My 11 year old daughter loved shelling and jumping the waves. The downstairs kitchenette counter provided a great place to display treasures. We got plenty of use out of the beach chairs and umbrellas. The house was well situated with a king bedroom and two twins on each floor. We were supposed to travel with my in-laws (Pre COVID-19) and we would have had plenty of room for all of us. Mattresses were really comfortable. And the kitchen had everything that you could need! Although my 14 year old son was disappointed with the internet speed for gaming, but it worked fine for the rest of us. He did appreciate the TVs. When we were there (late June) Duck did a really nice job with stores/restaurants social distancing and wearing masks inside.
Now for the couple cons. There was a slight smell EVERY TIME you walked up the stairs. Once you were sitting there you didnât notice anything. Not sure if it was a left over kitchen smell or what. The stairs are steep and the rise/run is awkwardly small. My father in-law may have struggled with that.
Besides that there are just a couple things that would make this rental perfect. The upstairs blinds need to be replaced to match the downstairs. They are old and donât function great. The new chairs in the dining room are very nice! But the old ones seemed to be scattered around the house filling every space. Maybe just keep a couple extra on either side of the buffet at the top of the stairs and get rid of the rest? The wagon for the beach was on its last leg. Itâs a short walk so we just used the chairs like backpacks.
Overall it was a great rental. We had a nice time social distancing with awesome stars, sand, and surf. If you get a chance, go on a wild horse tour. We all enjoyed it and watching them run along the beach made the trip!
First of all let me say that the location is great! We wanted close to beach and this is it (two minutes). We were also happy that we could walk to shops and a little market (10 minutes).
The amenities in the house were great too. From the beach chairs, umbrella, and beach wagon, to the kitchen ware, etc, they were all nice. The smart TV was great. The sheets were clean and crisp. The Adirondack chairs on the porch were perfect.
Despite the newer couch, TVâs, and beds, the house is old and shows itâs age in other places like the the furniture (besides the couch), the kitchen, and the very awkward stairs that are not standard size. Also dangerous for us, with two small kids, was that the railing on the stairs had slats that were too far apart and the kids could have easily gone in between and fallen down the stairs. We brought a gate for the top of the stairs but had this problem of them getting through the wide slats. Luckily we found in a neighborâs trash a broken childâs gate that we zip locked to the âholeâ so they wouldnât fall through. The couch was up against the rest of the railing so there was no problem there.
One thing we didnât pick up from the pictures was that the upstairs bathroom is a jack and Jill. The two bedrooms share it. It is small with only one towel rack and the three adults upstairs had to figure out where to put their towels after a shower.
We had to call maintenance once when we blew a fuse using the toaster oven and microwave at the same time. The circuit breaker box was in the locked garage (we couldnât find it). And the same morning the the smoke detector downstairs started beeping. I called maintenance three times and finally had to call someone from Resort Realty to get someone out there. No one came until the next morning. An emergency? No, but inconvenient and we did replace the battery in the smoke detector ourselves as I didnât want to go to bed without it working properly (they did offer to reimburse).
I personally didnât care for the carpet throughout the house. There is no vacuum. It looked to be in good shape but didnât seem to be a smart choice for a beach house, and with kids laying on it and dropping food occasionally I was concerned about the cleanliness. Iâm not a crazy neat freak, but in a house that sees new families every week, Iâm sure it gets vacuumed but not cleaned.
Again, this is a cute place and we wanted a great location and we got it here.
