This was a very nice hotel with lovely grounds and an outstanding staff! The view of the volcano was breathtaking. My only issue is the bed was very hard. Overall a great experience!

Never again
Pros:NOTHING. Stay somewhere else.
Cons:EVERYTHING--service, comfort, cleanliness
Location:45 minute walk into town. Sometimes with no path.
This place is an absolute dump. The pictures make it look decent but upon arrival things are old and dirty. They ran out of coffee, the TV didn't work. The walls are paper thin. There is a club above the restaurant on the second floor which I'm told by locals is "the place to go" on the weekends because it's the latest open bar in town. Had to listen to the crowds and music all night. There is really nothing walkable from it unless you are willing to walk about 45 minutes into town, sometimes with no sidewalk/path. The staff was not helpful. When I checked in the man at the desk asked me if I wanted one bed or two, in case I wanted to "bring someone back with you tonight". RUDE and inappropriate!!!

Great view in front of iconic Arenal Volcano
Pros:Cozy ambiance, location and restaurant.
Nice buffet breakfast.
Location:water park Klambu is less than 2 miles, same as Baldi Thermal Water Resort.
I had a very pleasant stay with my family at the Magic Mountain hotel. A very cozy place heralding the view of the Arenal Volcano in straight line with a magnificent sight. The quality of the food in the restaurant was formidable: especially the chicken curry.

magic mountain - no bueno
Although the hotel itself was nice and in good condition with a great view of the volcano, the experience was not very good. The entire staff from the hotel lobby receptionist, concierge, bell boys, bartenders, waiters/waitresses to maintenance and housekeeping made the mistake of assuming that no tourists speak spanish. I was amazed and highly offended at all the rude and cruel comments all the staff were constantly making about all the hotel guests in spanish, assuming no one could understand what they were saying. The service in the restaurant and bar areas was very slow, and not often with a smile. Most of the staff behaved as though doing their jobs was a huge inconvenience, and that was very obvious in their facial expressions. The pool was very cold, and the hot tubs were barely warm. The food at the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets was not very good, with little variety and small selections at each meal. I left my room one morning and when I returned, I found my hotel room door wide open because apparently the housekeeping staff had broken the lock and maintenance worked on the broken door for almost four hours while I sat in the room. They should have relocated me to a different room, rather than making me wait hours for them to attempt repairs. And, they never even fixed the lock!
In my 10 day vacation in Costa Rica, I stayed at 5 different hotels/resorts. I didn't have a single bad thing to say about the other four, but I would strongly recommend against staying at Magic Mountain. There are plenty of other hotels/resorts in the Arenal Volcano area to choose from.
