We originally booked to stay at Societal La Fortuna through Expedia and we were quite excited to stay there after the AMAZING experience we had at the Societal Jaco. After a VERY long day of busses rides and changes we eventually made it to Societal La Fortuna & were excited to just go for a swim and have some supper. However, when we got there we attempted to get in to the hotel only to be told that they are having issues with the local government and cannot have us stay there..... they stated that they sent emails however we NEVER received any emails from them and Expedia stated that they NEVER received any notifications either. We did end up finding another place to stay but now we were out the $550CAD we paid to stay at Societal La Fortuna plus what we paid for our new hotel. We reached out to Expedia for a refund and they spent the last five days trying to get the refund but with no luck as they could not get ahold of anyone... My husband is going to contact the CC company & see if we can dispute the charges through them and hopefully we will cover more ground. Anyway just want to warn anyone that may be traveling the La Fortuna to NOT book to stay here!!!
We had a wonderful stay at Socialtel La Fortuna. The room was clean, practical and nicely decorated. The hotel is centrally located close to shops, restaurants. The staff was very friendly. The included breakfast was excellent with many a la carte choices. The pool and bar areas were nice spots.
Central location in La Fortuna, good communal space area. The hotel has been recently rebranded to Societel - the private room was decent overall and has an A/C, but the overall room is clearly a bit worn out. There are food and drinks onsite but lots more choice in town especially if you’re looking for local food.
We didn’t book tours as we wanted to do the sites ourselves, we travelled by uber to the volcano entrance, waterfall and hot springs - which was pretty easy if you don’t have a car!

Stayed in one of the cabins — it had a rip in the screen and we got eaten alive by bugs overnight. Didn’t seem worth the money, especially because the “hostel” no longer has a kitchen. Slightly weird vibe. Great location though

Disliked: Amenities
I stayed in a teepee, which was just as cute as pictured. It was quite small though, pretty much just enough room to lay in the bed. I struggled to sleep well because the fan was in the corner of the room by the head of the bed, and the height of the fan made it so the top of it rested on the teepee which made a less than peaceful noise when it was on, which led me to turn it off. The property itself was pretty, but the bathrooms were quite old and in need of a renovation. I have never seen a hand dryer that had to be plugged into the wall, and when I did plug it in, it still didn't work. The people who worked in the bar were not friendly (not mean, but not really warm or welcoming) which surprised me for what I had heard about Selina's/Socialtels from a friend who stayed in the past. I think for the price of the accomodation, there is room for improvement.

This property is cute, and fun. Not the most chic or the most squeaky clean, but a great value overall. The staff was very attentive, and there were a lot of options for everything: food, spa, tours… also very centrally located!
Beautiful property, garden, pool, and restaurant area. My room was nice and clean, front desk was always helpful with guidance, and arranging trips. Overall a good experience
Very impressed with how nice our private deluxe room was. Bed was comfortable, shower was nice and big, and everything was clean. They offered complementary drinks every day, had a nice big pool, a full kitchen space to access, and free parking. The location is right in the middle of town so you can walk to everything. Would definitely recommend this place for your visit to La Fortuna.

Underwhelming room in a pretty good area with lots of restaurants in walking distance.
Not as good as the other Selina’s in Latin America but still good. Quiet, food expensive but overall nice hotel with friendly staff. However local children do come in to use the pool so that area is not quiet.

The hotel was a good basic clean room. I'd stay there again. Great central location.
Stayed at the micro room. It is too small to fit more than 1 person. Our air conditioner was leaking all night, and the night stand fell on me in the middle of the night and my water glass broke. I complained to the reception but they didn’t care. We paid extra to move to a standard room. The room is located right by the dorms so it was very loud all day and night, we got woken up at 6 every day. There was no community life at all. Yoga was cancelled every day, Coworking space is extra charge. To conclude, there wasn’t any benefit to staying at a hostel as we ended up paying the same as we would’ve paid in a hotel and we didn’t get to meet anyone as there was no community or ambiance at all. Would not recommend
Comfortable rooms and lots of amenities on-premise. Slightly far from the bus stop for airport or for other places in Costa Rica (but still walk-able), but close to the National Museum and it's not like there's many other things to see in San Jose.
