Before You Book⊠Just a Few Things to Know About Lazy Oaks Resort-
We like to keep it real around here, so weâve put together a few friendly disclaimers to help set expectations. Lazy Oaks Resort is a special place â rustic, beautiful, and full of character â but itâs not for everyone.
Yes, itâs beautiful here. Yes, itâs peaceful. But letâs be honest â when you stay this close to the lake and woods, you're signing up for a front-row seat to the wild side of the White Mountains. That includes bugs (despite our constant spraying), bats (they eat the bugs, so technically theyâre staff), mice (adorable freeloaders), geese (loud and entitled), badgers (surprisingly bold), and yes... occasionally, bears (they were here first).
Now, donât panic â actual wildlife encounters are rare. Most critters keep to themselves, especially if you donât leave snacks out like itâs a buffet for the forest. But still â if the idea of a spider ruins your weekend, this might not be your dream getaway.
Pet owners, listen up: we love animals â yours, ours, and the wild ones that roam the area. But please keep your furry friends leashed and in your sight at all times. This is real nature, not a fenced-in dog park. Wildlife doesn't care how sweet your pup is, and we'd like to avoid any awkward encounters that end in vet visits or dramatic stories.
About the internet... Yes, we have Wi-Fi, and yes, it usually works pretty well â weâre talking about 90%-95% success, which earns a gold star up here in the mountains. But itâs not perfect. Our Smart TVs run on that same connection, so they may occasionally get âdumberâ than advertised.
More importantly â you didnât come all this way to watch reruns of your favorite show. You came for fresh air, starry skies, and that glorious lake just outside your door. Weâve got free kayaks, pedal boats, fishing, hiking trails, and enough sunshine to completely reset your mood. So shut the laptop, drop the remote, and go make a real memory â the kind that doesnât need Wi-Fi.
A few more things to know⊠Lazy Oaks is home to 18 rustic cabins tucked into about 4 acres of private lakefront property. Yes, youâll have neighbors. Yes, youâll share grills and boats. And yes â thatâs part of the charm. Donât be surprised if you find yourself around a campfire, swapping stories, sharing snacks, and making new friends with people you never expected to meet. Itâs a social kind of place â in the best way possible.
And those cabins? Many date back to the 1930sâ1950s. Theyâre clean, cozy, and full of charm you just canât fake â the kind that creaks a little and tells stories in its sleep. Weâre gently updating them over time, keeping the best of the old while making space for the comforts of the new. If you appreciate character with your comfort, youâre going to love it here.
If you're looking for ultra-modern, sterile, and silent... well, we hear Scottsdaleâs nice. But if youâre ready for a lakeside escape with soul â weâve got a cabin waiting for you.
The bottom line? 100% of guests who arrive with the right expectations have a wonderful time â and hundreds return year after year. Lazy Oaks isnât just a place to stay. Itâs a place to slow down, reconnect, and soak in something real. We just want you to know what weâre all about â and if that sounds like your kind of getaway, we canât wait to host you.
Just a heads-up: We do ask all guests to sign a short rental agreement before arrival. We didnât want to go all âlegal,â but our lawyers insisted â especially since weâre right on the lake, welcome pets, and offer free use of boats. Thanks for understanding!
It was the perfect get away for the New Year celebration for my husband, myself, and our two dogs. They have cornhole, horse shoes, and indoor games too. Weâd like to come back and enjoy it when itâs warmer as well!
Beautiful outdoor location (lake!). Quiet. Easy check-in. Very good digital TV. Internet -- good, but it cuts out a lot. Clean interior. The grounds and building exterior are screaming for some upgrades and deferred maintenance! eg. our front porch steps was a liability waiting to happen. The shoreline (probably their best asset) just needs some major cleanup from LAST WINTER! And in the end, we had a nice time. . .
Exactly As described. Small resort nestled in shade of pine trees and with lake view. Rustic cabins that were comfortable and very clean. Common outdoor area with badminton, swings, horseshoe ,swings docks etc .Quiet, peaceful and safe.
Everything was great about our stay and everything was accurate from the website. Wonderful location. But itâs definitely in need of repair & deep cleaning. It was beautiful outside with the fire pit and nice chairs but only one fishing dock was usable, the boats didnât work, the horse shoes were broken & the outside lights only came on once etc. Everything in our cabin worked really well and efficient & the beds were comfortable and clean but it just felt old & dirty because our socks turned black from the floors not being clean, holes in the curtains, shower curtain folded over in half so it was hard to keep it in place while showering.. all the fixtures were falling apart, the toilet paper holder was barely hanging on but there was nowhere else to put it or anything because it was such a tiny bathroom with a tiny sink counter, etc. definitely needs some shelves or new fixtures to make some room in the bathroom. Itâs a great place & was priced right, & has potential to be so much better with a little TLC I guess.
The area outside and around the cabin is beautiful and has some great amenities like a row boat, kayaks and fire pits. Unfortunately the cabin was very dirty and had a lot of dog hair. The cabin smelled of gas and there is a missing fire alarm in the bedroom.
Our stay overall was great! It was so peaceful and the sound of the geese and ducks was pretty awesome. You got the cabin feel and privacy.
The only thing I would say is that I donât think you could 5 people into the cabin like it said. It was my son, the dog and I and it felt a little cramped.
Not even saying thatâs a bad thing! Just saying if you are looking for take more than what we had, I would consider a bigger cabin.
