This is our family cottage, located right on Stump Lake, part of the Mississippi River system. Walk across a quiet road to access a private dock, complete with several kayaks for your use.
There's a fire pit overlooking the lake for evening bonfires and smores roasting and the nights are beautifully dark for star and moon gazing.
Amazing fishing on Stump Lake (bass) and there's a boat launch less than a minute away.
The cottage is furnished in a calm Scandinavian style. This is our family cottage that we use ourselves all year round, so there are books, games and a very well-equipped kitchen for cooks.
Kitchen equipment includes: rice cooker, Instant Pot, toaster, coffee maker, and high-quality pots and pans. Also, we keep a large collection of cooking books at the cottage if you need inspiration.
The internet is fast enough for video conferencing if you need to keep in touch with work and there's an Apple TV to watch movies on a rainy day - you will need your own logins for Netflix and other streaming services.
Note: depending on your carrier, you may have no phone signal at the cabin. We are with Bell and make calls via the wifi connection.
Beds are comfortable and bed linen is high quality. Bedrooms are as follows:
Main bedroom with queen bed.
Two bedrooms with one bunk bed each, sleeping 2 people/kids per room. We supply all bed linen and ample towels. The bunk beds are not suitable for adults.
We have a kayak and a canoe that can be used for free. Bring your own floatation devices and use all boats at your own risk. You're also welcome to bring your own boats and launch them from the nearby public boat launch.
Note: The cottage is not directly on the water; there is a quiet road between us and the lake. There's also a public boat launch across the road where people launch their boats to go fishing.
House rules:
The house is serviced by a septic bed. This means:
Nothing goes into the toilet except waste and toilet paper. Hygiene products go into the wastebasket, please.
No smoking in the cottage or anywhere on the property.
Don't flush cooking oils, coffee grounds or any food waste down the drain. It can block the septic field and cost thousands to fix.
Water is from a well. It is tested twice a year and filtered but if you are not comfortable drinking well water please bring drinking water.
Cooking waste and plant-based organics go into the composting bin. Meat leftovers and bones go into the waste bin.
No candles or open fires in the cottage.
Please do not collect or use any of the firewood from the property. Wood for evening fires can be purchased nearby.
Some rules that may sound a little ridiculous, but we had all of these happening, so apologies for having to list them:
Please don't annoy the neighbours and keep noise to a minimum.
Please don't hike over privately owned land. Keep to official trails.
No camping, no tents for additional guests on the property. No RVs in the driveway.
The cottage is only for the people specified at the time of rental. No family get-togethers, please, no extended parties with random people staying the night.
Finally, this is our family cottage. Please treat it as you'd treat your own property.
