History of the chĂąteau :
The first traces of the chĂąteau date back to the 12th century. The du Bellay and Hautefort families (including Marie, who was the platonic mistress of Louis XIII and, lady-in-waiting and confidante of Queen Anne of Austria, was exiled here by Richelieu) lived in the chĂąteau. After the French Revolution, the Marquis de La Roche Bousseau renovated the chĂąteau, adding period decor in the Violet de Duc style. Since then, the chĂąteau has remained in the family of its owners.
