It is also known as an “island town” because its picturesque old town is surrounded by Lake Fleesensee and Lake Malchow. The city’s districts are connected by an earthen dam and a historic swing bridge, which opens several times a day to allow boat traffic to pass. Here you’ll also find the passenger ferry docks, a harbour, restaurants, cafés, and shopping options. Other attractions include the monastery church and the town mill, as well as a large swimming beach, a summer toboggan run, a monkey forest, and a horse ranch just outside the city limits. Boat and bicycle rentals right in town, along with wellness, sports, and golf facilities at the nearby Land Fleesensee vacation resort, round out the tourist offerings.
