Not Happy

Pros: nice pool
Cons: everything
Location: really nothing to do outside of the resort
non English speaking staff was a disappointment Bars closed at 7 pm so nothing to do after that food was below average not a great experience for the price. The flight down two toilet broke so 6 hrs of only first class restroom working and they made us stand in line behind the first class curtain horrible trip.

Dear Rich, We are really sorry to read that you did not enjoy the experience in our hotel to the fullest as we strive to make each stay with us an unforgettable one. Discussions involving the respective team members and management have taken place to review your comments. We take this space to clarify that we have receptionists trained in each shift who speak languages as well as customer service, who will do their best to resolve any situation that happens. On the other hand after 07:00 pm there is the bar “La Casona “and” Casino's bar “open until 02:00 a.m. Thank you again for making us your choice hotel on this occasion, we look forward to serving you again in the future. Best regards Barceló Montelimar

Barceló disappointed us with this stay...

Pros: The property itself.. The casitas were beautiful, wonderful beach, the Casa Grande provided amazing sunset views.
Cons: The attitude of the staff and employees as well as the food.
Location: we did not venture out of the hotel. didn't seem to be much to do outside of the resort.
We have previously stayed at Barceló in Cabo San Lucas and had a wonderful experience. We were looking forward to our stay in Montelimar. The hotel its self was beautiful, amazing beach, beautiful clean property. However the strict hours for breakfast lunch and dinner made it a little difficult and less of an enjoyable stay. If you missed lunch, which was set from 12:30-3:30p.m. you would have to wait until 7:30 pm for dinner. The snack bar closed at 5pm. The quality of the food served was also quite disappointing. Lastly, the staff needs more training and some lessons in manners in general. Specially the people at the front desk who are the ones that provide a first impression. The woman that greeted us was rude and did not seem to even want to be there. I would say maybe 1 out of 4 people was pleasant. This made for an awkward stay and not very relaxing. The evening entertainment was fun, and the Casa Grande was a beautiful area.

Not such a good experience

Pros: Free breakfast
Cons: No free Internet
The beach and the landscape are beautiful, but the bedrooms are not. There was mold in the carpet you use in the bathtub and the bathtub itself was filthy (had yellow stains). The AC could only be regulated to low, med and hi. If the low was too cold, the next only option was to turn it off. The key to the bedroom worked only the two first times. Also, to get to the restaurant where we ate, we had to take a little train pulled by a tractor. It passed by every 15 minutes, but if when it came to your place it was already full, you had to wait for the next tour...or the next. There is only one train and only one person that can drive it. If that person was not available, there was a problem.

Far exceeded our expectations!

Pros: Quiet, great food
We chose this resort at random after browsing for months on the internet for an all inclusive resort in central america that was reasonably priced, but most importantly an escape from reality. We werent too into the typical touristy destinations that would be cluttered with a lot of people, or high rise hotels, wanted more of a private getaway. So after seeing the bungalos available for this hotel, we booked an all inclusive package for a week. Everything from start to finish was absolutely perfect and beautiful! Didn't have one complaint the entire time! Got a Bungalow close to the beach and restaurant where the buffet meals were served, the food was amazing! There was something different at every meal every day so you didn't get bored of the same old thing. Most items were very healthy options, and there was a big variety of drinks available and something different with every meal also. We were on the beach all week, hardly a soul on the beach the entire time, so we had our privacy and relaxation we greatly needed. Everything we encountered was clean and nice! Pools were beautiful, staff so courteous and helpful, our bungalow room was far more perfect that we'd imagined! There is a mini zoo that is cool with deer, geese, peacocks, and a few monkeys in a cage. Big bird cage with 4+ large exotic birds over by one of the smaller pools that has a bar along side of it. The nightly entertainment was incredible, the talent these performers have I totally admire, very enjoyable, and they get the crowd involved too which was fun!! The resort is just huge! We definately plan on coming back here, this turned out to be the best vacation ever and everything we needed!

Paradise.

Cons: No free Internet
Excellent value for your money; but needs a lot of upgrades. Old rooms, old beds, old A/C in poor conditions.

Great bargain.

This all-inclusive resort was a great bargain and much better than we expected, especially after reading all the reviews on TripAdvisor. We usually don't do an all-inclusive, but this is one of the poorest countries in Central America and we didn't want to worry with trying to find places to eat. The food was really good, plentiful, and available all day. A huge, beautiful pool plus about three other smaller pools. Great beach with plenty of lounge chairs and hammocks. Convenient bars at all the pools and beach. Entertainment by the staff at night as well as a nice little Casino. Several great day trips are available at different prices. This is a very large resort with a six story hotel complex and lots of individual little houses in very nice landscaping. It may not be fancy, but we loved it.

Overpriced

My only comment is that the pool was not usable while we were there and we never received any notification of this beforehand.

NICE TRIP

Overall a nice place. My wife and I go to at least 2 all-inclusives per year and this was as nice as any. The scenery is great and the beach is your typical Pacific coast beach with darker volcanic sand and great waves. The service was OK but not much English is spoken. Food was average at best. Rooms were nice but the bathrooms need a little updating. Stay in the cabins- they are closer to the beach and restaurants. A few good excursions are offered ( we did the volcano which was nice). Make sure you have transportation to the resort or you will pay $70 each way with a taxi. Not alot of Americans but quite a few Canadians. A real nice place to relax and have a few drinks.People are real nice and its a very safe place to visit.
