A charming old Water Mill in Perigord, surrounded by nature
Le Moulin de Connezac is nestled in the Nizonne valley in north Dordogne, close to Mareuil en Perigord. A historic, unique and charming holiday home in the Perigord Limousin National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The River Nizonne flows underneath Le Moulin de Connezac, also around the garden. It is a place where you come to rest and unwind, then be restored by nature. We are adjacent to water meadows, there are walks direct from the Mill into the woods and up the hill, discover the lovely mosses, mistletoe and fungi, take your favourite tipple and sip on the hill overlooking the valley as the sun sets. It is tranquil and a haven for local birdlife. We have deer and boar, if you are lucky to spot. We have bikes to cycle the pretty country lanes in search of chateaux. Summer brings the sunflower fields. There is a kayak if the water level is good. The fire pit on the terrace is fabulous for late night sing-alongs, watching the stars and having good chats. We have boules, badminton and croquet and some fishing rods.
A perfect destination for a family and friends to get together, recharge, focus and take the energy of nature. The forest and river are in a natural eco system, preserving the beauty. We encourage the birds, dragon flies and wildlife to feel safe here. Ground Floor: The old water mill flows under the house, through the kitchen. There is a formal dining room / hobbies room, a casual dining area adjacent to the kitchen (open plan), the snug room with log fire and a garden room, a toilet room, and the cave for the washing - drying machines, bikes etc.
Upper floor: 3 spacious bedrooms with old stone fire places in each room. Sleeps up to 9 people. The master bedroom is large, with a 4 poster bed and additional single bed, and sofa along with an ensuite bathroom. The views cover the garden and streams of the front and back of the house, the 2nd bedroom has a 4 poster bed, the spacious 3rd bedroom has 4 single beds. Plus there is a separate bathroom with shower.
Outside there is a terrace, fire pit, BBQ, extensive garden and natural wild pool. You can play badminton, boules, croquet, go fishing or take a dip in the natural pool and take the kayak into the water. There are hikes into the woods from the house. Watch the sunset from the terrace, enjoy alfresco living, or take a bottle of your favourite tipple up the hill and watch the sun set!
The nearby towns all host morning markets. Mareuil has lots of local produce, the market is Tuesday morning. Brantome market is on Friday, selling many products. The river Dronne is great for canoeing, take picnic. Villebois has the medival market in the square, stunning. Aubeterre has the delightful Roman church and houses built on stilts up the hillside, take lunch in the Square. Look out for Brocante's and weekend Vide Greniers. In Mareuil visit Le Cave, with an excellent choice of wines. Grab an expresso at Chez Mia, while picking up your croissants from the Boulangerie in Mareuil. It has a certain pace of life, take the pleasures of the good food, wines and beautiful countryside. Happy Holidays!!!
Stunning old water mill on beautiful grounds. The kitchen is really well equipped & spacious. We had a really lovely relaxing stay. Some fresh foodie bits were in the kitchen on our arrival which was really welcomed after a long drive. Lots to see & do in the area.Highly recommend.
We had a delightful and restful week in the Moulin. The house has great character and is peacefully nestled in the hills surrounded by streams, with a charming garden, with seating, loungers and even a badminton set, or boules for games. The well equipped kitchen made cooking a pleasure. The owner was very prompt and responsive, and there were lots of activities, walks and guide books to suggest day trips. The piano, bikes and kayak were added extras to expand the realm of holiday activities. The rustic charms of the property, made for a great week's stay. WiFi is fine around the kitchen area and snug. The TV is basic with a DVD connected but some of the remotes were not obviously operational. This is a lovely homely holiday location, with charm and character, in a conversion from a mill which retains some low doorways, so tall folk need to be mindful, as well as looking out for steps and waterways around the property making it potentially more hazardous for the very young or elderly.
"Paradise is here!" - this saying, on a board in the kitchen of the mill is acutally the most accurate description for this location. Nothing to add. If you want to read more: Its a perfect place to relax. An impressive old structure immaculately renovated and formidably arranged sitting in the middle of pure nature. No traffic, no noise, just you. Ideal for one or even two families with small or grown-up (which was the case with us) children. We also used our 2 weeks stay to visit many of the famous sites in Perigord including caves, chateaus and small cities in direct vicinity to the mill but also went down to Dordogne and as far as Bordeaux. It was always a pleasure to return afterwards to the mill for complete recreation. Contact with Jacqueline was always nice and fast. Support by and talks with the local staff, Tom and Nathalie, living next to the mill, always a pleasure! Thx again Jacqueline for the opportunity to stay in Moulin Connezac!
We loved our week at Le Moulin. It is a magical place with beautiful surroundings nd a river running through the house! Romain was very helpful and gave us lots of ideas for activities. From taking walks in the trails leading from the house to cold swims in the river pool or just sitting outside - we didn't need to leave! But, we did venture out. The Friday market in BrantĂŽme was great. We also spent a moving afternoon with Laurence and her Arabian horses - highly recommended if you love horses:) Overall, an unforgettable week! We miss it already and hope to be back one day.
we had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful place .the house is massive with huge bedrooms and a splendid kitchen dining area with the mill stream running through the middle of the house .the gardens were peaceful with a huge heron on regular view .the stream is cold but we swam in a lake 20 -25 mins away by car .i hope we go back some day .
Our family of 4 (two adults and 2 kids ages 12 and 15) rented this house with our friends and their two kids (ages 14 and 15) for a week this summer; the property exceeded all our expectations. The mill is beautiful, and there was more than enough space for the 8 of us. The master bedroom/bath is immense; the bedroom that my husband and I stayed in is lovely (antique furniture, canopy bed, fireplace). The kids' bedroom, with four single beds, was perfect. The (multi-lingual) caretakers were available at our convenience; the (French-speaking) gardener, Roman, was helpful as well. And the kitchen and "cave" were well equipped. The owners--who were in Kenya--responded promptly and in detail by text to all our questions (even a stupid one about where to find dinner on the Sunday night we arrived). (A digression: We did manage to answer this one on our own: the answer was La Charrue, a casual restaurant/in about 6 km away, which offered a 10 Euro dinner with wine--curry chicken or Asian short ribs--which was odd (for our first night in the Dordogne) but delicious and a lifesaver because we didn't realize that grocery stores would be closed at 2 on Sunday, and that most of the local restaurants would be booked by the time we called.) The location is a bit out of the way, which was what we were looking for. The adults spent the first few evenings relaxing over grilled dinner in the yard while the kids played boule and splashed around in the stream on the property. Our trip coincided with the Perseid meteor showers: memorable. We made day trips to Perigueux and Lascaux; we also made evening trips to night markets (check the web for information on them) in 3 local towns (the one in Perigueux is not to be missed). Even the somewhat spotty WIFI and phone service were perfect: we were trying to get away from work, after all. All in all, a magical experience in a beautiful place.

Paradise
I can't say enough good things about the Moulin. This is my only experience where pictures don't do it justice. We stayed for a month and honestly we were in tears when it came to leaving. It's absolutely idyllic for relaxing, tranquility, sightseeing, everything one wants to do on holiday. If I have the opportunity, I'd come back in a heartbeat, no hesitation whatsoever.
We had a wonderful week here and wished we could have stayed longer. The house is in an amazing spot, peaceful and secluded but within a short cycle ride of the nearest village and shop. The mill is full of character but has been beautifully renovated. The kitchen is huge, and really well equipped and we enjoyed lots of family meals there. The owners provide everything you could need for a great family holiday and were very accommodating on the run up to our stay. We couldn't have wished for a better place to spend a week in the Dordogne - there is plenty to do in the area, but if you want to relax, then the house and gardens are a perfect spot to do just that. Thank you.
