How close is Maison de Marquay to downtown Marquay?
Heaven on Earth. The Maison de Marquay is the heart of the Dordogne. It is the most pleasant hotel I have ever stayed in. It is tiny and you are a member of a very close nit family headed by Marie-Laure and Gerard who make sure you are supremely well cared for. There is absolute privacy if you wish or delightful company if you choose.
The hotel is not as old as it appears but is filled with beautiful antiques and charm. Marie-Laure and Gerard rebuilt the Maison to their high standards when they opened it about 10-12 years ago. They are the owners, chief operators, chef, concierge, and all around wonderful hosts. There are not many dining options in Marquay. The breakfast was out of this world, they do not have a formal evening meal but the petit dinette was great. I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at the Maison de Marquary.
Marquay is centrally located in the triangle formed by Sarlat, Lascaux, and Les Eyzies and is a perfect base for exploring the Dordogne and the prehistoric caves of the area. The town itself is tiny and spectacular and dead silent. The views of the country side are awesome.
If you want to get away yet stay in the modern world, Marquay and the Maison de Marquay are the starting point. I hope I get the chance to go back many times.
