Whether you come to relax, browse through quaint shops, or explore the natural beauty of Mentone, Chestnut Oaks is the perfect getaway for you.
Our cottage, nestled on the west brow of Lookout Mountain between the historic town of Mentone and Desoto State Park, has a wrap-a-round porch with rockers to enjoy the breathtaking view.
Even though our cottage is equipped with satellite TV which means you won't miss your favorite ball game in the fall, most of you will leave it off to enjoy your restful surroundings. The large porch is the perfect place to enjoy the cool shade of the trees in the summer and colorful fall. The winter months reveal the beauty of the valley below and the ridges in the distance.
Family, friends, or just the two of you can enjoy the rustic pine paneled 'gathering room' where you can read books, play cards or board games, watch TV, or cook up something is the fully equipped kitchen. On a chilly day enjoy a fire in the gas log stove on the stone hearth. There is a small stone patio with a charcoal grill for your cookouts.
The two bedrooms each have a queen sized bed with linens and warm comforts. Each room has storage space in chest of drawers and good closet space. There's a cot in one bedroom. The sofa opens to sleep two if needed. The two bathrooms are equipped with towels, tissue, and hand soap.
The cottage is located 4.6 miles from downtown Mentone and 2 miles from Desoto State Park. Some of the many activities available for you include incredible water falls, hiking, horseback riding at the Dude Ranch and golf at Lil Mole Run. Go to Desoto State park or the Canyon Center for more information on events provided.
If you don't want to cook at the cottage, try some of the wonderful restaurants in Mentone, The Wildflower Cafe, Elevation, Mentone Market and our two new food trucks one at the Mentone Inn and one at Moon Lake Trading Company.
And don't miss the Saturday Farmers Market next to the Mentone Inn, open year round.

One of the Best We've Stayed at

This cabin is awesome! It is immaculate and well laid out with two bedrooms and two baths. There is a great porch overlooking the valley. Though our intention was to visit Mentone and De Soto State Park, we did neither, instead staying at the cabin and enjoying the solitude and scenery. We will definitely stay here again when we're in the area.

What a beautiful place!

The location of this property is perfect! You cant get a better view anywhere! The home was welcoming, cozy and fully stocked for all our needs. We would have enjoyed relaxing on the porch much more if the weather had not turned so cold, but inside was the perfect temp. There are lots to see and do outdoors nearby. The host was very responsive when I reached out with questions. We look forward to returning any time of year.

From the moment we drove into the driveway, we were amazed at the cottage and the view. It was our first vacation in over 3 years. The cottage was beautiful, clean, and exceeded our expectation! Fall Getaway

We picked this place for a short trip and ultimately had a great time. We got to see the fall foilage. It was also cozy with the gas heater and chilly night temps. We even went trick or treating at nearby Desoto State Park. Hope to come again!

I looked at all the excellent reviews people left before I booked this house and thought we’ll try it and see. It can’t be as good as all that. BUT IT WAS! The location is perfect. It was so clean. Everything you need was in the kitchen. The view was amazing! We will definitely stay again and have no problem recommending this cabin to our friends!

Perfect Spot

I had stayed at this cute little house a couple of years ago with 3 friends. Wanted to show my husband the area, so one of my friends and I brought him along this time. The house is in a great location, it has beautiful views and most importantly, it is easy to access for people with limited mobility. (My friend and husband both deal with spinal stenosis) Loved our stay and highly recommend!

Relaxing Getaway

Two Nights to Explore Fort Payne

Our trip was to take a family member to Fort Payne. He has been a fan of the band Alabama for many years. Not wanting to stay in a hotel, I viewed many listings in the area before settling on this one based on the reviews. The reviews were accurate and we enjoyed the stay. I would stay there again.

What a lovely cottage that overlooks the valley. We enjoyed sitting on the porch with morning coffee and looking across the valley....We made the cabin our home as went on the longest garage sale challenge way up to Signal Mt. Tennessee. Thanks for sharing the cabin with us.

Peaceful Mountain Stay

The home had everything we needed. It was very clean and location was perfect. The brow view was absolutely beautiful from the back porch. We didn’t cook during our stay because we wanted to try the local restaurants and overall we were very pleased. There is so much to do in the area but relaxing at the house was the favorite part of our getaway. Also, we seen lots of beautiful deer and the property was shaded and quiet. Would stay here again for sure.
