Exclusive 3-bed, 2-bath retreat with majestic Atlantic, Moher & Aran views.

Set within the private grounds of Freagh Castle, Freaghcastle House is first and foremost a cherished family home. Built by our grandfather in the 1950s and now entrusted to Matt, Nicolas and Marie-Sophie, the cottage was completely renovated in 2022. Its original Irish character has been carefully preserved, complemented by elegant interiors and all the comforts of a beautifully considered contemporary home.

Inhabited since the 19th century, the Freagh Castle estate enjoys an exceptional position on the west Clare coast, overlooking the Atlantic and surrounded by acres of wild, unspoilt countryside. Secluded and wonderfully peaceful, it offers a rare sense of privacy and space. Here, each day unfolds to the rhythm of the wind, the changing light and the tides.
The views are truly remarkable. From the house, the eye travels across the Atlantic to the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands. The landscape is never quite the same twice, shifting with the weather and the seasons before giving way to magnificent sunsets over the ocean.

The kitchen has been designed for guests who appreciate good food and enjoy cooking with the exceptional produce found along the Clare coast. It features a generous American-style fridge-freezer, a multifunction oven, high-quality cooking facilities and an extensive selection of equipment and utensils. Whether preparing a special dinner or a leisurely breakfast overlooking the sea, everything required is close at hand.

Freaghcastle House is especially inviting during the winter months. The heating system was entirely redesigned during the renovation, with underfloor heating providing gentle, consistent warmth throughout the house. Even when Atlantic winds and rain sweep across the coast, every room remains exceptionally warm and comfortable. Guests can enjoy the full drama of winter on the western seaboard from the comfort of a peaceful, beautifully heated retreat. The contrast between the wild elements outside and the cosseting warmth within is one of the house’s greatest luxuries.

Filled with natural light and comfortable in every season, the house also offers high-speed satellite internet and thoughtfully selected materials and finishes. The two elegant bathrooms include a spacious walk-in shower and a full-sized bath. Fine bed linen and towels are provided for every stay.

At the heart of the living room, the fireplace brings an added sense of warmth and occasion, filling the space with the distinctive scent of a traditional peat fire. Settle in with a book, play the guitar, share a glass of wine or simply watch the Atlantic light move across the landscape. Cows and horses are our closest neighbours, while hares, foxes, stoats and birds of prey occasionally make an appearance.

More than a place to stay, Freaghcastle House is a private coastal retreat with a character entirely its own. It is a place for space, silence, exceptional views and unhurried days, where luxury is found in comfort, privacy and the privilege of experiencing Ireland’s Atlantic coast in every season.
