Luxury 1870's sandstone cottage, 2 bedrooms, 5 star kitchen & bathroom, garden

Appletree Cottage is an 1870's sandstone cottage in the Lake Alexandra heritage precinct. Retaining original features of this early two bedroom cottage, the 2016 renovation has updated our home for 21st century living. Conveniently located two minutes walking distance to Mittagong town centre you will find cafes, restaurants, pubs and antique shops.
The front door opens onto your cosy sandstock brick lounge room with two comfy sofas and a large wing back chair. The gas log fireplace and Persian rugs set the tone for luxury and romance. Complete with TV, sound system with Bluetooth/wifi connection, mood lighting, books and board games . The front bedroom comes complete with a queen size bed, linen sheets, luggage rack and original barrister’s wardrobe. The rustic second bedroom also has a queen size bed with an 1850’s farm gate bed head, antique cast iron clothes rack and Australian cedar pigeon holes for storage. There are also spare handmade quilts for cosying up on cold winter nights!
The lounge room opens onto the brand new and lavish well stocked kitchen and dining area which is also furnished with original Australian antique furniture and advertising memorabilia from the 1920’s.
Venture past the ’Hotel’ sign to open the door to your luxurious bathroom. Here you will find a deep soaking bath, separate rain shower and a smaller shower head if you prefer not to wet your hair! Underfloor heating will keep you warm. There is a skylight for great makeup application, fluffy towels and space to put your accessories.
Ideally suited for romantic getaways, pre-wedding preparation or just a relaxing weekend getaway, all your needs have been catered for. Authentically decorated with original antique furnishings, Appletree Cottage will transport you back in time without compromising modern day luxury. Sip your cappuccino from the coffee machine surrounded by 19th century sandstone walls bathed in morning sunshine and enjoying the underfloor heating. Large sliding glass doors open onto the beautiful sandstone paved courtyard surrounded by a rosemary hedge. There are plenty of places to sit in the back yard and enjoy a glass of local wine and a cheese platter! When the appletree is fruiting please help yourselves.
Please note our home is NOT suitable for children, pets, smokers or parties. If you are planning a small gathering please inform us in advance.
Ideally situated 80 minutes from Sydney and 90 minutes from Canberra, the Highlands are a perfect getaway

No response to my message at time of booking. (which Stayz suggested I do)- Providing essential check in details in the week leading up to booking so the guest can prepare for trip ahead eg Outline whether keys or pincode will be needed to access property (and when this information will be provided) and parking arrangements- Glass platter for cheese/cold meats/ olives etc- Towelling bath mat for when you step out of the shower.- mattress topper for beds as they are extremely hard- Wi-fi is unstable and kept dropping out.- the ability to connect to the "Anyview Cast" on the TV as that you can use your personal Netflix account.

Excellent experience!

The property is an 1870's two-bedroom house centrally located in Mittagong. It has been beautifully restored such that it has retained it's original character, but been enhanced by the inclusion of modern appliances, etc. It is very cosy, clean and relaxing. Rod was particularly helpful.

Olde World Gem

Lovely little cottage, very well renovated with new appliances and modern fittings, merging nicely with the beautiful original sandstone building. Furnishings and decor are quaint, tasteful reminders of a bygone era. The kitchen is very well kitted out - there is really nothing more you could want to make your stay enjoyable. The extra treats left by the hosts were very much appreciated and a nice welcome to our stay. Lots of little luxuries, like the heated floors, electric blankets and gas fireplace made our winter stay very comfortable and enjoyable. Central location within walking distance to lots of eateries and the town centre, although be aware that some places are closed Monday/Tuesday. Great central spot to explore the beautiful southern highlands. Make sure you walk (or drive) to Lake Alexandra - a hidden gem just down the road and a great spot with water birds, turtles, playground and picnic areas.

What a quaint, small & cosy cottage. Right in the heart of Mittagong; walking distance to cafes and shopping. It was fun going in back in time to spend time in an old compact house. Facilities were adequate, beds comfortable. Recommend giving it a try. We would certainly come back

Beautiful cottage and perfect for four of us

We had a great stay here with friends. The pictures on the listing give a perfect representation of what to expect. It was absolutely spotless and the kitchen is modern and has everything you need. The hosts left us lots of goodies (including pears from their orchard, cheese and wine) and the underfloor heating was welcome on a chilly morning! Would 100% recommend.

A Delightfully Elegant Cottage

Appletree Cottage is exquisitely charming in every aspect with tasteful and luxurious furnishings and details enhancing a truly enjoyable and comfortable experience. The cottage is immaculately clean throughout and exceptionally equipped with the contemporary kitchen and bathroom complementing the beautiful sandstone/sandstock areas and elegant antique furniture. Situated in a tranquil location, a short walk away is the lovely Lake Alexandra as well as an array of Mittagong’s shops, cafes and restaurants whilst other delights of the Southern Highlands are only a short drive away. It was an absolutely pleasurable and memorable stay in Appletree Cottage.

Lovely Highlands Cottage

Appletree Cottage is a beautifully restored sandstone cottage in the middle of Mittagong, around the corner from great restaurants and cafes. It is decorated with curios and charm and has the latest appliances and is fully equipped. There is also a private back yard. We only stayed for a weekend but it would be comfortable for much longer, especially as a base to explore the Highlands. The owner was helpful and generously left us an amazing hamper, fresh fruit and flowers that was a great treat for us. Highly Recommended.
