Hiking trails include a Roman road dotted with kilometer markers. The spa town of Gerês, dating from the 17th century, is nearby. Lindoso is a traditional village in which there is a medieval castle and stone barns. To the north, at the top of a huge staircase, stands the 19th century sanctuary of Our Lady of Peneda
