At first glance, Nea Potidaia enchants visitors with its postcard-perfect beaches, turquoise waters, and traditional Greek atmosphere. The village itself is built near the ruins of the ancient city of Potidaea, founded in the 7th century BC by Corinthian colonists. While much of the ancient city has been lost to time or lies beneath the modern town, the remnants of the fortification walls and ancient harbor still hint at the area’s historic significance.
The village is a wonderful place to simply relax. Its beaches stretch along both sides of the isthmus, offering options for those who prefer organized beach bars with sunbeds and music as well as those who seek solitude and the sound of waves. The western side, facing the Thermaic Gulf, often has calm, shallow waters ideal for families with children. Meanwhile, the eastern side, with views across the Toroneos Gulf toward Sithonia, boasts clearer waters and unforgettable sunrises.
