There's a restaurant on site, as well as a snack bar/deli. WiFi is free in public spaces. HI New Orleans - Hostel also features an arcade/game room, laundry facilities, and a communal living room. A complete renovation of HI New Orleans - Hostel was completed in July 2019.
You can walk to anywhere in the French Quarter and there is a streetcar right in front of the hotel, so the transportation is very convenient.
The shared kitchen is spacious and open 24 hours a day, so I used it often.
The only inconvenient things were that there was only a small light by the bedside so it was dim, and in some shower rooms the water was lukewarm, and the breakfast selection was limited.
The cost of the stay was very reasonable, so I think it was great value for money and suitable for long-term stays.
I would like to stay here again when I visit New Orleans again!
This was a wonderful facility. We had the suite which consisted of a queen bed and bunk beds which was great for me and my two kids. The room was very clean as was the whole property. The staff was helpful as it was our first time in New Orleans. It is walking distance from Bourbon Street. It is even on the trolley and bus routes. You have to park in a parking garage and walk to the hotel is the only downside but other than that everything was great. Definitely will book this hostel again when I go back to New Orleans.
The hostel is near all the local attractions. You can walk, take the bus, street car...a lot of options. It is safe and clean and has card access locks to lockers and storage area, very secure. Breakfast from 8-10am is an added amenity that I appreciate. I don't have to worry about finding a place to eat before I start my day wandering around the city.
Secure, easygoing stay. I felt safe, could come and go freely, and connect with others when I wanted. Everyone seemed chill and focused on their own trip, no drama.
It was my very first hostel experience. I shared a room with two other people. Bathrooms were very clean, though a strange, musty smell was present in all of them. They were obviously cleaned frequently. They were never out of supplies (shampoo, towels, and toilet paper). One thing I would change is that everyone is expected to wash their own dishes which is not the most conservative way to use water. I did not see any signs about water consumption, either, though there were many necessary signs. I saw one person wash one coffee cup with probably 4 galons of water.
I have never stayed at a hostel, but would readily suggest yâall for people who do. The bed was comfortable, bathroom clean, though some were closed so sometimes it was hard to find an open one. My room was right at a major intersection, and it seemed the window was really thin so I couldnât sleep. That was my biggest complaint. The staff were helpful, cheerful and encouraging. For me, I was on vacation and needed a different experience. Nothing against the facility at all. Now Iâve experienced a hostel and found itâs not for me, though I do appreciate what yâall do.
