Very pleasant overnight stay. Excellent food and service from friendly staff. Attractive setting. Spacious room with comfortable bed. Warm despite the cold weather. Pleasant short walk to Donnington Castle with superb views over surrounding countryside. Decor and fittings in the room looking tired but generally clean.

Our room was absolutely lovely. Large, airy and comfortable. Excellent shower but we did not like the extractor fan which came on when the lights came on automatically and stayed on for about 20 minutes- not good in the middle of the night.

The staff were very friendly, especially the receptionist. This is an old Manor House that is listed, so they are restricted by what improvements they can make. It has a lot of character and charm and was very reasonably priced.

The room was very run down with a threadbare carpet and no bulb in one of the bedside lamps. The room was at the top of the building and no help was offered with carrying my luggage up the stairs. The bathroom was antiquated and the dodgy plumbing kept me awake as it made a tremendous noise every hour or so. The staff were cheerful and friendly but seemed inexperienced and there were very few of them. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds but could do with major improvements.

Pleasure from the past

When my taxi pulled up to Donnington Grove, I was instantly impressed with this gem out in the country. I had a beautiful room on the top floor, enjoyed the cool evening air coming through the windows, and sitting in the late afternoon watching the geese bathe and play. It was a truly relaxing part of my England vacation!

Stayed here for 1 night for work. Long drive up to property through golf course. Okay greeting from person on reception. I was in room 304 which was up a lot of stairs (at least 3 flights) and there was no lift (which was okay for me). Room was huge as was the ensuite, but all very tired decor and needed redecorating. Bed was comfortable, WiFi was okay, TV was old and control was not great. Tea and coffee making facilities were in a draw and had to unplug another device to plug in the kettle. Lots of Canadian Geese in the grounds which did make an amount of noise both at night and in the morning.

We were in the summer houses which were very spacious, clean and comfortable. The showers were the best ever. My husband did his morning walk up to the Castle and really enjoyed it. The full English breakfast was superb with delicious sausages and that set us up for the day. Overall a wonderful stay and we are sure to return. Highly recommend
