After receiving the bill we noticed it was more than we expected after paying for ut. Turns out there is a service charge. The member of staff showed me on the menu, this was the very small writing on the back of the menu.

Excellent hotel, very comfortable and welcoming. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room facilities were excellent, very clean, great hot water for shower. Only item i was disappointed with was the gym, poor equipment, not enough weights, mainly anaerobic equipment.

We stayed with our grandaughters and the staff could not of been nicer or more accomodating the youngest one has her querks and they went out of there way to make her feel safe we travel to this part of the country from wales 3 or 4 times a year and i think weve found our new place to stay thankyou

I have stayed in many Holiday Inns across the country and typically stay in hotels for business 2-3 times per week… I have never experienced being threatened in the car park by a member of restaurant waiting staff whilst attempting to park my car due to their belief my car was parked in the wrong place despite the fact I was still in the vehicle with the engine running waiting for another vehicle to move from their parking spot as they were leaving (they were also in their car and had started the process of manoeuvring to leave). This being said the rest of the hotel staff were exceptionally helpful and polite. I would have to warn others to think twice about staying at the hotel with staff members that acting in a threatening manner. I raised this issue upon checking in and also reiterated my concern when checking out but did not receive contact from the hotel management - does Holiday Inn condone this behaviour?

Excellent food but rooms smaller than other hotels

Rooms and bed not as big as other hotel chains but comfortable. Having restaurant in hotel serving excellent food was a real bonus

Reception staff excellent also room was clean and tidy, breakfast very good. Evening meal in restaurant food was good but we were over charged and I knew we were overcharged. I asked for itemised invoice and told they could not provide that due to a 'glitch' asked again for itemised invoice and told it would have to be typed at reception and told to wait in reception. A lot of coming and going with waiter to receptionist then restaurant manager came asked for my bank card to check with his hand held card reader what we had paid and then gave a £10 credit back to my bank card, no apology just walked off and still not provided with an itemised invoice. No we will not stay at Holiday Inn again. The hotel chain also advertise they give a discount to ex Service personnel using their Defence Discount Service card and I could not get the booking to accept this so no discount. Also when making our booking they wanted to charge me £20 for my Service Dog that is a registered Disability Assistance Dog. We always stayed at Hotel Inn Washington on our visits to Newcastle Upon Tyne. No I would not recommend this Hotel now. Receipts below and we were given one of them torn as shown below
