Authentic dike house Nieuw Vliet

Hi! My name is Casper. I’m 46 years old and have been living on and enjoying my houseboat for 9 years now. Over the past few years, I’ve spent a lot of time and effort renovating the boat, and for the last two years, I’ve been hosting guests from all over the world, giving them a taste of the “Amsterdam houseboat lifestyle.”

Since I’m new here on VRBO, there aren’t that many reviews yet. I wish I could share the incredibly positive feedback I’ve received on other websites, but unfortunately that’s not possible.

The boat is an old cargo boat from 1907 that was renovated a few years ago in a modern style. The original wooden roof elements from its early days were preserved during the renovation. Once you step aboard, you’ll notice that many nautical details—which give the space a very cool and rustic ambiance—are still visible. The portholes also add to the “ship experience” we offer. The apartment features two bedrooms, each with a comfortable double bed and an en suite bathroom with a shower and sink. The bedrooms are adjacent to the living room. There is a separate (private) toilet next to the living room. Although I live on the same boat, you’ll hardly notice I’m there. The place is very well insulated, and you’ll have all the privacy you want. At the front of the ship, you’ll find a nice terrace where you can sit and enjoy the view of our harbor. There are many restaurants just a few minutes’ walk away. Of course, I’ll be happy to share my personal favorites with you. Furthermore, there are many bars just around the corner.

The boat is located in the Oosterdok, which used to be Amsterdam’s old harbor before Central Station and the railways were built around the 1880s. The Oosterdok island is now a high-rise construction site, and our little boat village is actually situated between the oldest part of Amsterdam and the modern island with its expensive hotels and clubs. All other parts of town are very easy to reach on foot, by public transportation, and, of course, by bike. There’s a bike rental shop just around the corner. Note that the boat is fully equipped with central heating, so you’re guaranteed to stay comfortably warm all year round. Your apartment has a private entrance, and you won’t have to share any facilities with anyone.
