We had two problems with the property which occured on Sunday. Both problems were handled immediately even though it was during the weekend. The property manager responded personally to one of them and the problem resolved wonderfully. The other was an electrical problem we hich emergency maintebance fixed right away.
We stayed in Oak Island in May and wanted to come back for a quick long weekend. When we arrived the house was in very poor condition. Thereâs visible damage throughout (toilet paper holder off the wall, scuffed walls, rotten decking, etc.), but my biggest concern was after only 30 minutes inside I developed a headache from the musty odor. Weâve also found two large cockroaches. This place is in almost disrepair, when I sat on the deck (away from the smell) and my husband would walk through the house, the house was swaying. We immediately pulled our car out and left it in the driveway.
This was a nice location right on the beach. You walk down the steps and a house over on sand is the beach access. Very quiet beach first week of June. Very functional home but could use updates. The screens on both doors are coming off. A glass door on exteriors would be a nice update. To allow you to look at ocean and not have to worry about closing door constantly. The driveway is sand and we had to use our 4 wheel drive to get out of driveway a couple times. I believe gravel would help this. The bathtub plug was broke and this was not ideal with small children wanting baths. There were no doormats inside the home to help collect the extra sand. It was constant sandy. No broom was found yo assist. We ended up buying a hose to help wash off porch and steps due to the sand being slippery. The washer was moldy and could use a good cleaning. Although it says linens are provided, we had to make up our own beds with the linen still. A lot of the furniture is outdated and has knobs broken off or mirrors leaning. A fresh coat of paint would be nice a well, there are several areas it is peeling. With all of this said, the home is functional and in a great location. Updates are needed as I said above. We did not reach out to the rental company about these things as we there were no major things that needed immediate correction.
I only wish I could post the pictures here that were taken of this beach house, they would speak for themselves. Extremely embarrassing and disappointing to have rented this place and bring family down to join us. ( we live in Oak Island) When we arrived at 4 pm to check in, a cleaning staff member was sitting on the furniture on his phone for starters.
The home was dirty beyond belief for what we paid per night. The master shower smells like sewage when you run the shower water, the smoke detector did not work, and has not been checked in years, the back door and molding had been destroyed from a previous dog staying there, 4 tvâs didnât work, mold in both bathrooms, dust behind furniture and ceiling fans covered in guck! I could go on, but letâs leave it at that. Would not recommend this particular rental. Owner does not take care of it, and the rental place doesnât look after it obviously.
