The entrance is up a cross street to the Regua Street...three meters...in a little dlley.
Casa Do Rio.
This is a backpackers w/ communal kitchen and living area...
Very good value for money. We had a room with a private bathroom which is very decent for the price. No complaints over facilities or check in. The room was advertised as river view which really was a side view as you are on the corner not facing the river directly. Other rooms are facing the river.
I don't usually bother writing reviews, but our stay at Casa do Rio deserves one. Our host, Carlos, was fantastic - very welcoming and offered to help us with whatever we needed. He arranged for us to visit their vineyard for an afternoon by the pool followed by a port tasting and then dinner, they even arranged transport for us.
Room was small but clean, bed was perfectly fine and the AC did it's job. We booked a room with a shared bathroom which was also good. There is a kitchen with the basic stuff if you want to cook.
All in all a great experience in Douro Valley!
The property is right across the street from the river which was beautuful. I rented a "suite on the river with a private bath" thinking the bath was attached to the room. The "private bath" was located across the hallway from our room (in the common area). The reason he called "private" was we eere the only ones who were supposed to use it. A bit misleading.....
Situated on the Duoro river it was an idyllic location close to train and bus line. The room was very clean. There was a noisy fan provided to circulate the air but it was still a bit stuffy. The common kitchen area was great providing everything you may need if you chose to cook. We ate locally which was fine as there are a lot of restaurants. A perfect base to explore the area.
