Beautiful village house, centre Roussillon, private pool, fab views BOOKING 2026
Featured in The Sunday Times' 50 Sensational Villas, the house is right in the middle of one of the most famous villages in Provence - Roussillon. Famed for its ochre cliffs and soil, it provides one of the most stunning backdrops to any rental house. While the house is only yards from cafes and restaurants, it offers total privacy and is beautifully quiet inside the house. There is easy parking in the village and in walking distance.
The light on the village is stunning all year round with crisp blue skies and a low-winter sun bringing the ochre colour out in winter to hot sun and a bustling village in summer. Perhaps the two best times of year are spring and autumn.
In spring, Roussillon comes to life with the restaurants and cafes opening onto the pavements and terraces and the Thursday market returning to full force. The weather can be beautiful and the village lovely out of high season.
In autumn the colours are spectacular as the vineyards start to turn to gold and the temperatures still hitting 70 degrees in October. Dogs are welcome but subject to a âŹ50 fee for cleaning payable in cash at the house.
Exterior; The house is located just 50m from the market square, a third of a way up into the village on a side street.
The living room opens onto a large terrace ideal for outdoor meals (table for 8) which leads up to a smaller upper terrace (table for 6) which commands beautiful panoramic views across the ochre hills. The swimming pool is a little lower down overlooking the lower terrace; it has a ledge on one side approximately 1.5m from the edge and underwater lighting. It is heated up to 24°C free of charge, weather permitting (we tend to turn it off once the temp reaches 24 naturally). There is space for loungers on two sides of the pool - there are 4 sun loungers in total.
Interior; The attractive front door opens into the spacious and very attractively furnished living room which in turn opens onto a large terrace to one side and a large dining room/kitchen to the other, also with a terrace. The interior is very personalised with antiques, artwork and has a lovely warm atmosphere. Upstairs are a large double bedroom (150cm bed - overlooking the terrace and pool) with an en suite bathroom with a wc (wonderful views from the bath), two twin bedrooms (the larger one (90cm beds) looks over the street and smaller one (75cm beds) has views of the countryside), a shower room and a separate wc.
The house is also a wonderful place to stay in winter: log fires, beautiful walks in the winter sunshine, few tourists and is very quiet and peaceful. A fabulous Christmas vacation idea!
The three terraces offer a mixture of direct sun and partial shade and there are tables and chairs for outside eating on all three.
The village has several cafes and restaurants ranging from simple meals to some very good cooking indeed. Russell Crowe in fact had a party in one of them, Le Simonde, while filming 'A Good Year' a few years ago. Nearly all the restaurants have lovely views. There is a market in the village on Thursday mornings which has all the Provencal goodies you would expect!
The village also has a good supermarket, Casino, which has pretty much everything one might need. There is also a butcher and a lovely bakery.
Beyond the village there is the local town of Apt which has a fabulous market on Saturday mornings and there is a farmers' market in Coustellet on Sunday mornings. Other local villages worth visiting include Gordes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Lourmarin and Menerbes. Further away to the east is Avignon, well worth a day trip and only 40 minutes away. To the north there is the mighty Mont Ventoux - one of the highest mountains in Provence, viewable from the village. The drive through Haut-Provence to get there is spectacular. To the south there is the Grand Luberon - well worth a day trip. Aix-en-Provence is the other side of the Luberon and should not be missed.
We spent a really good time in Roussillon. The location is perfect, we enjoyed the pool and the garden so much. Also the house is beautiful and perfectly equipped. Thanks Alice & Clifford for your welcome.
We spent one week in Roussillon. The house is in a perfect location and very well decorted. We spent our time visiting and resting in the afternoon. The pool and the terrace (with a great view) are ideal for enjoying family time. The owner sent us a lot of info and is very kind to help.
A wonderful house in a beautiful village. A true home from home, very comfortable and well equipped. Clifford and Alice are amazing hosts, friendly, helpful and giving of their time. With 3 terraces, a pool and stunning views, itâs easy to rest and relax and soak up the sunshine. We had a great holiday and highly recommend this property.
Home with lots of character in a beautiful area of the world.
We had a lovely stay in Roussillon in this well- equipped home. The outside areas are a real bonus and the pool was extremely welcome as we were there in high temperatures. There are plenty of pretty villages to visit in the area and Clifford and Alice were very responsive hosts.
This charming village home in an ideal setting oozes character and history and was our favorite place to stay during our month in France. The owners are friendly, helpful and clearly love their holiday retreat, making it a comfortable home for others to enjoy. We used the pool every day and enjoyed cocktails on the terrace. Roussillon is a lovely village with lots of options for dining and shopping. We cannot wait to return and stay here again!
In the heart of the village the house is spacious & very well equipped for those that like to cook. There are three different terraces for outdoor eating one with a magnificent view towards the ochre hillside, another nicely enclosed with ambient lighting.
Communication from the owners was excellent both before & during our stay. Any questions we had were promptly answered & the house has plenty of travel guides providing useful information on the local area.
Would highly recommend this beautiful property
A family holiday a while in the planning was realized in Rousillion in this fabulous picture perfect Provencial escape. A world away from our busy life, we found respite here in the golden hills.
Shared meals in the courtyard, swimming in the perfect blue pool, birdsong and the chiming bells from the church on the hill.
This wonderful property has everything you need to make you feel complety relaxed and at home. The rooms are large and beautifully and thoughtfully furnished. Clifford was easy to contact and communicate with.
We hope to return. We highly recommend Clifford & Alice's marvellous 'maison'.
Lovely spot to stay and from which to explore Provence
We loved this house, Roussillon, and the area. The house is fully functional and equipped, and charmingly designed to offer multiple usable outdoor and indoor spaces which never got boring during our full month there. And there are a myriad of lovely hilltop towns and areas to explore nearby. To top it off, the owners are thoughful and responsive.
This is the most beautiful house, quirky and characterful, with lots of space - that gorgeous salon! And the main bedroom is enormous, with a bathroom that has the most spectacular views of the ochre cliffs. The house is beautifully decorated with lovely furniture, rugs and pictures so that you never feel as though you're staying in a featureless holiday home but in somewhere much loved by its owners. It's equipped with everything you could possible need for your stay - stacks of lovely towels, a kitchen with enough plates and cutlery for every meal (not that we ate at home very often as there were so many cafes and restaurants close by). The pretty terraces are a delight, and the pool was a godsend in the blazing August heat. It's in a perfect location in the village, a moment's walk to shops and cafes and delicious ice creams. The village is lively with music in the town square in the evenings (typically jazz duos - nothing raucous and you can't hear it from the house!) There was even a travelling cinema we went to one evening.
The village itself is a really fun place to be. There is so much to do in the area - I think we only had one day at home - and the Luberon is so spectacularly beautiful. What helped make it perfect were the hosts, Alice and Clifford, who were charming and generous and completely wonderful. Thank you both for everything!
We had the most wonderful stay. Clifford and Alice were consummate hosts, providing detailed instructions for making our arrival and departure a snap, and being available to offer speedy solutions to our periodic requests (guitar strings, late takeout, package delivery instructions, etc.). The property itself could not be more centrally located. We marveled at the views while we ate home-cooked meals on the fabulous terrace. We enjoyed late afternoon swims to cool off after long day-trips around the region or meandering along le sentier des ocres... truly magical. We regularly frequented Ninoâs Cafe across the street for tasty breakfasts or lunches, fresh squeezed lemonade and orange juice, and even ice cream; the most pleasant, patient and welcoming people in the village. And the house itself is truly a home, furnished with care and a personal touch we rarely get to enjoy on our travels. A truly rich and restful experience, full of little surprises at every turn. If youâre trying to decide between staying in Roussillon or another village in Provence, let this home be the tiebreaker. You wonât regret it! We only hope weâre fortunate enough to be able to return for a longer stay in the not too distant future.
It was everything I expected loved the style of the house
The house was what I thought to be typical French in style. The pool great as we were there in the heat wave. Roussillon was a very lovely village and we did day trips and found Roussillon to be the best. The cafe across the road, Ninoâs was lovely the people friendly and helpful and the food excellent. We had an amazing electrical storm and lost all power and internet, the young man from the cafe came across and helped us turn the power back on. A must is the Ochre walk starting up the hill past the car park, incredible. We were 2 couples but if there are more adults the 2 single beds in one of the rooms are very small singleâs. Clifford and Alice are great hosts and very attentive.
We were a family of three generations traveling together, and our stay in Roussillon was everyone's favorite part of the trip. The home is situated in the heart of a bustling village that is not overly-touristy like some of the Provence towns we visited. The nicest thing about this house is that it feels like the family home of friends, not a sterile place tricked out just for rentals. Lots of well-worn books to read in the library, guides to the area, cushions and floaties for the pool, kitchen utensils and dishes all very lovely and Provencal. Comfortable beds and gorgeous views, magnificent bathtub & view in the master bathroom. Parking very near house, not a problem at all. The village is very near Gourdes, so easy to make day trips to the many charming hilltop towns of the Provence, about 45 minutes to Avignon.
The house has three outdoor terraces & we used them all - indoor/outdoor living, which we loved. The weather was uncomfortably hot while we were there, so we spent many late afternoons enjoying wine and cheese by the plunge pool.
Our hosts, Clifford and Alice, were very caring and concerned â excellent communication before and during our stay. When we couldnât figure out the washing machine, they got right on the phone to walk us through the instructions. They gave us many excellent insider tips about local experiences (best restaurants, market day, nearby festival with jazz & food trucks). The ochre trail is magnificent - and right outside your door. Worth a trip to the village even if you donât stay here.
Highly recommend. Thank you Clifford and Alice for everything - we would go back in a heartbeat!

Beautiful village house in Roussillon
Charming village house in the Provencal town of Roussillon. Beautiful salon where our family would gather at the end of day to discuss our travels. In the evening we would gather on one of the terraces and enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset over the town. The home was extremely comfortable and met all our needs for our two week visit to Provence, France. Loved our visit and hated to depart...look forward to returning again!

Large house, great location
But some maintenance needed to be done, i.e. Toilet kept running. Also furnishings were pretty shabby and the place could stand a good deep cleaning. It was over priced but the rooms are large and two private courtyards and pool were nice enough. Perfect location for enjoying Roussillon and very quiet and private.
Pictures don't do this home justice. It's an incredible location with fantastic indoor and outdoor space. Great way to begin our family vacation. There is so much to see in the area, but Roussillon was our favorite of all the Luberon towns we visited. Master suite is gorgeous with beautiful bathroom. Two other bedrooms have two twin beds each. Kitchen was well equipped, and all our meals were eaten on the upper patio with best view in town. I would love to return and stay longer.
Georgous home in the middle of a georgous hill-town in Provence
This is a beautiful home in the middle of Roussillion, comfortable with lots of room and charm. The Rosens were a wonderful set of hosts, taking the extra steps to communicate and insure our stay was comfortable and free of unnecessary surprises or hassles. Lots of room for three couples to share appetizers on the streetside upper patio, dinners in the courtyard, or a dip in the deep pool. Local merchants were friendly and welcoming, and we developed a personal relationship with several as the week went by. The town itself, is charming with beautiful architecture and stunning ochre rock formations, not to mention the vineyards in the valleys all around. We visited several nearby hill towns and wouldn't trade Roussillion for any of them.

A wonderful house in a wonderful village
The experience of walking in to Clifford and Alice's house was as refreshing as the experience of going out of it each day to see the beautiful view and enjoy the very sweet town of Roussillon. Cliifford and Alice were very good hosts, meeting us before our stay on skyoe and providing us with detailed knowledge of what we needed to do to enjoy our stay there. There were also very responsive to any of our requests for further help and invitation. One complaint is that we could have had slightly clearer directions about where the house was since there are no numbers (it took us a while to locate it - but maybe we forgot something they told us in person). All in all - when we sum up our stay there, we say -"what a lovely house, what a lovely town to be in while also visiting the many beautiful neighboring villages close by. It was a great experience. Thanks to both Clifford and Alice. Jane Ariel
