3 bed house on Mermaid Street, Rye

Oak Corner, as it says above the door, was rebuilt in 1490 and is one of the most photographed buildings in Rye!
Oak Corner is a superb medieval house on the premier street in Rye. Mermaid Street was recently voted the most picturesque street in the UK.
Enter off the cobbled street into a large kitchen comfortably seating 6-8 people and with everything you need for your stay.
Up the higgledy piggeldy stairs on the first floor is the superb sitting room with inglenook fireplace.
Up a few more stairs is the master king size bedroom with en-suite shower room. Up a few more higgledy piggledy stairs to the second double bedroom and shower room next door.
Finally up some more stairs into the loft room with low exposed beams where there are 4 single beds.
Oak Corner is over 600 years old and has settled over the centuries so that the floors and stairs are very uneven! It is not suitable for visitors who have problems with mobility.

Wonderful house!
We loved our stay here! There were 5 adults and everyone was very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and the appliances all worked beautifully. The house is on Mermaid street and so you cannot ask for a better, more picturesque location. Nicola was wonderful and responsive to our questions. We cannot recommend this place more highly. (we stayed a week)

A Step Back in Time
This wonderful flat right in the middle of Mermaid Street could not be better located. I stayed with four women. Once we got the hang of the old stairs, we were good to go. The owner was so gracious in sharing helpful information prior to our stay. Thank you, Nicole!

Loved it - if you want extremely characterful house in ancient small town then it could not be better.

What a great short escape!
We had a lovely time staying here for 3 nights, the house was comfortable, beds very comfy, showers work well, kitchen well equipped. Could have done with an additional chair / seating in the lounge as we enjoyed using the fire. There were a few leaks in the kitchen (not surprising with the age of the house) . The location was perfect, so many amazing restaurants and shops around. Our teenagers can’t wait to go back for ‘Tatners’ take away!! A great little spot in a special little town! Thank you for being so hospitable Nicola!

A Great Break in Rye
An outstanding location in the oldest part of Rye, Oak Corner is everything described by the owner and much more. Top class facilities, spotlessly clean, lots of history and character. You cannot go wrong with Oak Corner.

Incredible stay.
It was a special treat being able to stay in such a historic house. The house was beautiful, comfortable and plenty spacious with lovely old features you'd expect and welcome in a house this old. We received some lovely welcome treats which were a nice surprise. Walking up Mermaid street and around Rye in the early morning has to be one of the best ways to experience it. Parking wasn't an issue at all, we ended up getting a weekly ticket for the train station car park and there were plenty of spaces all week. Can't recommend this house enough!

Great weekend
My dad and I spent a long weekend in Rye and caught up with some family friends. The house was ideal for our needs and was a great base for some walks in and around Rye and for some relaxing evenings in front of the fire.

Great location and space
I would recommend a visitor’s book with info and instructions on how to use hob, Wi-fi, TV, heating etc. Also, what to do with rubbish and recycling. Also toilet chain in en-suite needs fixing as it kept coming off in our hands. Otherwise, the place is lovely. Thanks for a lovely stay.
