I liked the air conditioning of the avitacion I did not like that they did not have a coffee maker in the avitacion or ice machine in the buildings or halls, the pool tables were with coins paying and the machines to obtain the coins did not work and it was with no entertainment the hotel the restaurants very good the services but in the bars some bar attendants did not treat well they had preferences for white people better treatment and they refused me several times to make me a drink called cocoloco and white people did not deny it I do not think I would return to this hotel too, the security service is not so good, my son from the pool area had his cross shoes stolen and some people just arrived they stole their luggage I give them 2 rating stars

The hotel was very nice.

The service was great, the food was better then most all-inclusives however the roof of the main buffet hall came down not even two days into our trip which means the conditions of the hotel weren't maintained very well. We are comfortable with our stay but did get inconvenienced by that and also our room wasn't cleaned one day.

Terrible...

Just came back from spending the weekend there for the wedding of one of my closest friends with a total of 86 guests.  So much went wrong, most importantly they did not try their best to make the wedding as special as it should have been.The Ceremony was on the beach absolutely beautiful. No complaints there. I wrote down a list of things that were wrong with the reception. Here it goes:  - No Air Conditioning in the reception area which was one of the restaurants at the resort . They opened all the windows and we had to fan ourselves the whole time.  A guest asked Georgina (the wedding organizer) about the air conditioning system and was told that it had been broken a few nights before They should have moved the wedding to another room with air conditioning to make it more comfortable for their guest.  -  The waiters were taking their time filling up champagne glasses for the toast. Half of the party had to toast with glasses of water.  - Our table was not ready after we walked in from cocktail hour, chairs and dining sets were missing.  - The menu was all seafood. People had allergies and they were not understanding that. They thought they fixed it by placing steak and seafood on the same plate. No appetizers for meat eating people.  - Everyone ended up going to the buffet and eating . The wedding venue was empty at one point.  - DJ was just playing a CD and walking out.  - Everyone left early because it was uncomfortable. -The list goes on...

MOST ENJOYABLE & RELAXING VACATION

We were at the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo in May of 2013.  We were pleasantly surprised.  Beautiful hotel grounds, amazing beach, excellent food, and the staff were very friendly, pleasant and helpful. We cannot wait to go back.

Very nice hotel and excellent staff

Pros: Free breakfast, Quiet, excellent staff
Cons: Nothing close, No free Internet, beds uncomfortable, no wash clothes
The people that work here are Excellent! They are always smiling and happy to help out. The restaurant food was excellent. The beach was very nice with lots of chairs and umbrellas. The beds are small and lumpy. You are given 1 towel and no washclothes... strange... There are people constantly trying to sell you something on the beach. Top shelf liquor is extra. I tried to use their internet cafe but was told to leave because I did not pay extra to be in their "club program". The hotel lobby internet is worse than dial up - don't even bother trying to use it...

not for young couples

i wouldn't give this hotel more then 3 stars. the first day that we came to the hotel our safe didn't work and we had to wait 2 hours until some one came to fix the problem ( every time we called they said less then 5 min). our room was so far from the ocean. the night life is dead over there after 11pm they turn off the lights in the lounge. we went twice to the club and we were the only one there. the food in the buffet is the same or similar every night the dessert is the almost the same every night. grand bahia principe is a well known resort but this one gives this chain of resorts bad name

Amazing for the price

Pros: all inclusive
Definitely go for the Golden Package and try to get one of the buildings close to the beach. They start at 1 (closest to the beach) and go up from there. The higher the number, the farther away from the beach. The place has an outstanding beach and all watersports are included. The buffet is ok, not fantastic but still way worth the price. If you go out to any Restaurants outside the Hotel, they are very reasonably priced and the food is amazing. Hotel still has a very varied menu in the buffet and fruits are fresh as are many other things. If you have a chance, rent a quad and go for a ride outside the property. Las Terrenas is an amazing place. For a romantic dinner, go to a Restaurant called Mi Corazon, I left speechless. Also the Beach Restaurant owned by The Peninsula House Hotel is also a stop you will always remember. Bottom Line, its has a fantastic beach, big rooms, varied Buffet, but if you need gourmet food you'll have to ride for 5 minutes to the plethora of amazing restaurants around town. Definitely a place to see before you die.
