Don't be fooled by the pictures of the Lamplighter Inn! The room was dirty. The carpet was old and stained. There was hair and mold in the bathroom. There was no handle to close the shower door and it would not close all the way. The electrical outlet was so worn out that my phone charger could not stay plugged in. We went to get coffee in the morning at a local coffee spot and upon returning our keys would not open the room. We had to go to the office at 7:00 am to get the keys recharged and were hasseled for ID. It would have been better to sleep in the car.

Good place for a family to stay

Nothing fancy, but the room was clean and beds comfortable, and front desk staff were friendly. The location is quiet and in walking distance of downtown. We stayed in a family suite. The TV in the second room wasn't able to show anything and the lamp in the corner of the main room wasn't working (same room and same issues as last time), but these were minor issues.

The heater was unplugged when i got there. One of the trash cans had not beed emptied and there was a saop ring on the sink counter, left from the last occupants. The pool was drained and there was signs of some sort of construction going on in the parking lot.

Our room was very clean and totally acceptable and the bed comfortable. I’d have rated both cleanliness and overall experience higher if only the very dirty carpeting in the hallways weren’t in such dire need of replacement. A short, walk to downtown and lots of eating establishments. Nice, helpful college kid at the front desk and a rather cool small aquarium in the lobby.

Utterly disappointed by missing amenities

Plagued with issues, my stay at Lamplighter could have been made exponentially better had the management not been so unprofessional. The list of issues was long, and when I tried to communicate them to management, I was met with hostility and no understanding. I had cold/lukewarm water the entirety of my stay, the tv didn’t even work, no stopper for the tub (which I couldn’t use anyways with no hot water), the pool and hot tub were bright green with algae, and there was actually a pair of dirty underwear left beside the bed that housekeeping did not find and remove prior to my checking in. All of these things are unfortunate, but the worst part was being berated by management when I tried for the third time to communicate these issues. I would advise no one to stay at Lamplighter. The room looks nice in photos but with so many hotels in SLO, it’s better to spend your money elsewhere.

Could Use Some TLC

It was ok for a place to sleep and shower. The hot water ran out around 10am. Some horrible black gunk backed up into the sink while we slept. The heat lamp made a noise like an air raid siren. Housekeeping only left one washcloth and no hand towels. On the plus side the room was clean and the staff was nice.

Terrible condition

We had to move rooms multiple times. The first room assigned to us was not cleaned (dirty beds and everything). We got put in a different room with no working heather, so we slept in our clothes it was that cold. The next day we got moved again to a room that we found out the door does not lock and the heather worked but blowed only cold air so once again we were freezing. When asked to move rooms again we were told they were sold out and we couldn’t move. Also, when I tried to take a hot shower to warm up the bathroom tub had so much hair inside, so I couldn’t make myself shower in it. Overall terrible experience, we would never go back.
