We chose this hotel since it was close to downtown and the boardwalk and although the property itself was ok, there were a lot of homeless people (unfortunately) hanging around in the parking lot. I have kids and felt somewhat unsafe going out to the car and around the premise. The staff was wonderful (esp Jordan at the front desk) who welcomed us and was very friendly and helpful. The pool was extremely small (an oversized Jacuzzi really) so that was disappointing. Breakfast was great with a lot of options! So good and bad but I do not think we would return.

It is true that Santa Cruz does have a noticeable homeless population, though we work with the city of Santa Cruz, our neighbors, the Santa Cruz Police Department, and contract with a security company to keep our property and neighborhood safe for residents and guests. Again, we are sorry to read that this will be your final impression on us and that you felt such a way!

Very clean and staff was very friendly. The breakfast was really good and had a lot of options. The indoor pool was a hit with my kids too.

I did not like how the parking was setup but besides that it was an enjoyable place to stay. Close to many restaurants.

Homeless people hanging out in Hampton Inn’s parking areas. I was nervous leaving my car there. Electronic key system was malfunctioning throughout entire property so if you left room and wanted to go back in you had to ask the front desk to let you back into room each time. They said it could not be repaired until the next day. We checked out the next day so I don’t know if it got fixed. The breakfast was either cereal, bagels, etc. cold items but no hot breakfast like before probably due to Covid restrictions. Pool was deceptively represented in pictures. It may as well be the size of a hot tub. There were three small children in it probably 7 and under and no one else can fit in the pool unless you want to just stand in it. I booked this Hampton Inn specifically because I’ve stayed at a Hampton Inn countless times throughout the country and it has always been excellent. This was the worst Hampton Inn I’ve ever stayed at. Poor location with homeless hanging around the property. I can’t believe the entire electronic key system would just shut down the entire hotel like that then expect guests who’ve paid $235 or more a night to not be able to get into their room without staff letting them in. Definitely NOT worth the money and I should get some kind of refund of discount for this. As for breakfast, I may as well have gone to 7-11 and bought their prepackaged pastries, it’s the same thing. Poor quality food for the high price they charge a night.

The receptionist was rude, I gave them 3 dirty towels in return for none and the surveillance cameras in the back parking lot were broken meaning our cars weren’t under surveillance from theft or vandalism.
