We only stayed in Otaru for one night, but we would definitely stay here again. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. We got there early so they held our luggage for us and delivered it to our room while we were out. They even gave us umbrellas to use when they realized we didn’t have one. There is a Family Mart, shops, and places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. Bonus, they also have 2 washer/dryer machines and an ice machine on the second floor.

Love Otaru & the Torifito

Clean and spacious room! The hotel was in an ideal location and within great proximity of the train station, post office, museums, the canal, bus depot, restaurants and shopping. Enjoyed their breakfast buffet with many options as well.

This hotel is within walking distance to the canal, Otaru Station, dining options and the main shopping street. Breakfast is a great selection of local specialties. Staff are attentive and professional.

We used Otaru as a base for skiing to Sapporo Teine and Kiroro. Good location for Otaru activities and restaurants. A warning to people that snow is not removed for sidewalks and makes walking terrible especially if you don’t have snow boots. Some people wear ice spikes that help.

Nice Hotel

2nd stay in this hotel. Last year stayed in the tatami room and this year stayed in the normal room. It is a smoke free hotel but they do have a designated smoking room at ground floor. Walking distance from JR station and canal.

We arrived at noon and they advised that checkin is only available at 3pm. For us to request for them to speed up the cleaning so that we can checkin at 2pm, it will cost 1000 or 1500 yen. Though we drove and offered to pay for parking, they insisted we can only park from 3pm onwards due to it being the hotel policy. Our car was waiting by the carpark gantry and knowing that we had several suitcases, they dis not offer to even allow us to drive in and offload our suitcases, except that we can offload it by the side of the road. The intern (wearing a badge) advised that breakfast has different seatings and advised that the popular timing of 8am is no longer available but when we next check with another staff a few hours later, they were able to offer us 8am. The room is exceptionally small with no wardrobe or hangars. Ideal for 1 night’s stay. Otherwise, good to opt for other hotels.
