This is an excellent choice for seeing Saumur. It is in an old building with a lot of character. My room was large, with wooden beamed ceiling, tall windows that opened, and a limestone fireplace I wish I had in my home. Ensuite had shower and had plenty of space. Bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly and quite helpful. The hotel is part of a very large restaurant with good food and good service. It is in the main shopping and dining area, and within a short walk to the Chateau, which is the major attraction of Saumur. I would like to stay there again.

Sweet hotel with a good restaurant menu. Friendly obliging staff on the whole comfortable room and good shower in a small bathroom. Nice views across the river and convenient for shops bars and restaurants. Be warned no lift and there are 4 floors with a very narrow staircase!

Disappopinting and noisy

We were disappointed with this hotel. It overlooks a parking area adjacent to the river which was very noisy later at night. This was compounded by the location of our room which overlooked the adjacent cobbled street where the commercial refuse bins are emptied at 5.00 followed by roadsweepers with flashing beacons and beepers at 5.30. The noise was unbearable and we left before 6.00 am. The restaurant was very good and we enjoyed the food and drink there - but this is not enough to compensate for the overwhelming downside caused by the noise and commotion that we experienced and we would not recommend this hotel

Single night stop en route to Bordeaux We found the access to the room via two flights of narrow winding stairs ro be particularly difficult with luggage The room was smaller than that indicated on Hotels.com The shower screen was broken

Convenient and Comfortable Hotel

The location of the hotel is great, in Saumur centre and just a short walk up to the Château. You have to pay for parking immediately outside the hotel, it was 1.80 Eur for 2 hours, which is the maximum stay in the morning (9-12) and the afternoon (2-6.30). There is free parking further up the road if you need to park longer during those times. The room was small, and the bathroom was tiny (you could barely turn around in it), but we had a view of the River Loire, which was nice. There was no air conditioning, only a small fan. The breakfast was 10 Eur, and it was not worth the money. There were many patisseries nearby where you would get a lot more for your money. Overall, we would stay here again simply because of the good location.

Excellent hotel for visiting Saumur

I was driving back from Spain to England and chose the Cristal Hotel as it was centrally located in a town that I had not visited before. It was an excellent choice. Saumur is a very picturesque town with an impressive Chateau and a number of bridges crossing the fast flowing Loire. There was ample public parking (1€ an hour) in front of the hotel. The room was quite large with a four poster bed and tea/coffee making facility. The decor was a little tired but everywhere was clean. The friendly receptionist spoke good English and was very helpful. The best part was the restaurant where I had the most delicious evening meal. The breakfast in the morning was adequate. My only gripe was the wifi which was a little slow and I kept on having to sign in when using it. I would highly recommend the hotel as well visiting the town.

Although we only stayed the one night and I would happily stay again. The room we were originally booked in for(23) was terrible. Dark and with only a view of roofs inhabited by pigeons and being somewhere in the vicinity of the extractor fan from the kitchens. I was very grateful they were able to find us a room with a lovely view of the Loire River no pigeons or smell and for only 10euros extra. Voila!! everyone's happy.

Comfortable and quiet

Had an enjoyable 2 night stay at the Christal Hotel, the room though on the small side was tastefully decorated and had a lovely view over the Loire. Contrary to expectations there was no problem with street noise. The bed was very comfortable with proper feather pillows and 2 extra soft pillows if needed. We were on the 3rd floor which might be a problem for some as it was only reached by a narrow staircase, as were all the rooms. Fair sized shower room with lots of hot water and very clean. Didn't have breakfast there but lunch was good. Very pleasant and helpful staff. One street away from the old town so excellent location. I would stay there again.

Cristal Hotel

A budget priced hotel that delivered what was expected. Right in the centre of the town. Free parking was found about 200 yards away although had we tried moving the cars later we may have got closer. We didn't bother as we didn't need them for the two days we were there. Unloading and loading was done right outside the hotel. Very good meal in the hotel restaurant in the evening.

Nice stop off point right by the river. Decor a bit tired upstairs, but comfortable room with plenty hot water to recover from the journey. Good meal in the restaurant and very pleasant staff. Plenty parking right outside hotel but no traffic noise during the night.

nice rooms and good service

The hotel is in a good location as you enter the town and close to free parking along the river. Front desk person was helpful and could speak English. Room was nice with views of the street. Hotel was used as an overnight stop before heading into the Loire Valley. I would recommend for anybody passing through!

Nice little hotel

A very nice, relatively inexpensive little hotel. Helpful friendly staff and good food. No hotel parking. There were a small number of places directly infront of it that had to be paid for. A much larger free car park was minutes walk away
