Captain's Cottage, historic cottage on corner lot.
The quiet and cozy Captainâs Cottage is an homage to the unique history of Ballard, where a large population of Scandinavians worked in the boat building industry at the turn of the 20th century. Inside this 1915 cottage showcases many treasures from the Captainâs seafaring travels. The house is situated on a corner lot with a front and back yard, where one can sit under the shade of fruit trees or take a walk to explore the neighborhood full of great restaurants, cafes and breweries with outdoor seating. **If you have mobility issues please note steps are required to enter the property and access the bathroom. ***If you are taller than 6 feet, this house may be too small for you.
Everything was perfect! We liked the location, the theme (Captains Cottage), and the character of the place. Will rent again when one or both of us are in Seattle again.
Clean, appreciated the sparkling waters, always liked this location, very convenient, looking forward to coming back at Christmas if available, host makes it easy, did not go to a vineyard
The property was in disrepair with uneven path stones leading to the front steps. I recommend using a light at night when walking them. The yard was half overgrown. The bathroom was tiny and not easy to move around in. The high tub took up so much of the room and required a large step to get into it. It would present a problem to anyone not comfortable doing that. The grab bar was not convenient. The kitchen had ample frying pans but few pots. The stove burners were not all working. It needs renovation like a walk-in shower and larger vanity. The owner was prompt in replying to our questions. There was no winery experience as your review demands we rate.
We enjoyed our stay here. We felt safe and comfortable and it had everything we needed. Itâs an older property so there was a musty smell, from old moisture, I suspect. I donât think everyone would be sensitive to that though. Over all it was as clean as would be expected of an house that age. And the door frames are low if you are over 6 foot tall. My husband, who is 6â4â hit his head several times. The bed was comfortable, and kitchen amenities were great. We loved the location.
The photos are not representative of the property. The exterior appears not to have been painted in years, and stairs to the front door look in disrepair. The yard does not resemble the pictures, neither front nor back, and the patio "furniture" needs replacing. There is a step down to the bathroom which elderly persons would have to navigate in the dark while using the toilet in the middle of the night. The bathroom itself is barely navigable, a large cast-iron bathtub dominates the entire small room where a large, older person would find it difficult to use the toilet, or even climb over the edge of the tub where the shower is located. Completely inaccessible for some folks, impossible for my husband, who is in his eighties. We abandoned the "cottage" as it was impossible for us to make it work.
Clean, well supplied, great location. Very cute nautical decor.Yard/garden was full of weeds and dead flower heads. Too bad because it was a beautiful, sunny weekend, but the garden/yard was not inviting at all, House was great, yard so much.
A step back in time as the property has an historical feel so appropriate for Ballard. Definitely a charmer with gracious hosts. Loved the fresh flowers and seltzer water in the frig. Private little back garden made morning coffee even better
This cottage was perfect for a solo staycation! The decor was so wonderfully curated, and the house had everything I needed to be nice and cozy for a few days. Loved sitting in the garden, and there are so many great restaurants and amenities in walking distance. Renee checked in with me halfway through, and when I mentioned that I was sad that it had rained and I couldn't enjoy the garden as much as I'd planned, she popped by right away to bring over fresh dry cushions for the garden chairs!
Main problem was stepping over a high tub to get into shower although there was a sturdy grab handle it could really be a problem with someone of limited agility. The remainder of the bathroom was tiney. We layed out our toilet items in the kitchen which had ample space. Also a downstep was needed to get to the bathroom which calls for care especially at night.
The Captain's Cottage was perfect for our mother-daughter visit to Seattle. We loved being in a quiet neighborhood with easy parking and in/out access. The house is tiny but had every amenity we could have hoped for.
This was a lovely place to rest and decompress, yet close to bus lines that took me right into downtown. I canât think of anything that was missing. Do stay here; youâll like it.
This was our second stay at the Captains Cottage at Christmas time. small house, but warm and inviting. In the Woodland neighborhood within walking distance of Ballard central amenities and the brewery district (and our grandson!). Only a few blocks to the express bus stop to get down
Town Seattle. I would bet itâs every bit as great in the summer when you can hangout in the front yard and watch the world go by! The hosts were very accommodating and kept a tidy and unique property.
