Children under the age of 36 months must wear swim diapers in the pool. Rubber rings must be less than 1 meter in diameter and are only allowed in the children's pool. You would think for the money you pay and the attention to luxury the hotel is known for that they would have REAL beds. Our king size bed was nothing more than a giant box spring and a 2 inch mattress pad. HARD AS A ROCK!

5 Star Service with a capital S!

We have stayed at many five-star hotels around the world, but the service at The Shilla is truly in a league of its own. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and every staff member I encountered – including the valet attendants and service car drivers – spoke English to a high standard. If I had to identify a fault, which is difficult, it would be the use of individually plastic-wrapped cups in the rooms, which are replaced daily during servicing. This seemed excessive and not particularly environmentally friendly. Additionally, upon check-in, I was informed that the gym and indoor pool would be closed for renovations throughout the entirety of our stay. I clarified this several times, as it seemed unusual given that we had not been notified beforehand. However, I kept seeing guests dressed in gym attire in the lifts. On the fourth day, I enquired directly at the gym and was told that it had only been closed for one day. Unfortunately, due to this misinformation, we missed the opportunity to use the gym and indoor pool, which was disappointing.

This hotel is hands-down my favorite place to stay in Seoul. Every time I visit the city, I check availability here before considering any other hotel. The rooms are clean, quiet, and somehow I always get a room with a view of Namsan Tower. Waking up to that view never gets old. I also love starting my day with a workout in their fitness studio—it’s well-equipped and a great way to stay on track while traveling. The buffet is top-notch, with an impressive selection, although quite a bit pricey. I wish they offer a la carte and better cappuccino. Too bad my son and I aren’t big eaters, we usually skip it and opt for in-room dining when we want to relax or most of time we just go out. The room service has always been prompt and delicious. The location is incredibly convenient—there’s a subway station right outside the hotel, cafes just across the street, and around the corner by the stadium, I recently discovered a fantastic new brunch spot (wish I’d found it sooner!). Taxis are super inexpensive so we used Uber a lot. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to recognize returning guests more personally—like remembering room preferences and maybe buffer voucher? Since I come here every year, it would be a nice touch. Overall, this hotel makes every Seoul trip feel easy, cozy, and comfortable. I’ll definitely keep coming back!

Amazing customer care

They provide amazing service. I left a bag in the taxi trunk on the way this hotel. The concierge tracked the taxis license plate and found the driver. And they were able to recover my bag! Definitely, they are dedicated to an excellent customer care!

Good stay overall. Free shuttle was a nice touch and staff were attentive. Dinner buffet is expensive but highly recommend it. We had problems with our electronic door lock not opening several times throughout our stay however which was the only negative.

Amazing Hotel Experience

This should be one of my best hotel experience in my whole life of travelling! The moment I step into the hotel, I could feel the welcoming by the staff. Super in love with this hotel, love the ambience of surrounding especially when its snowing, I choose the city view, the room is very clean and comfortable, the internal still looks very new, the services of the room service is meticulous. All the staffs are so energetic, friendly, helpful and attentive. They are very observer whenever I have questions in my expressions they will approach me immediately. Not just one staff but everyone, I m veryimpressed. I feel they have went through very a good service training or the management must be very good to the staff. Thumbs up to the management and the staff they are really amazing. The only thing is nothing much near the hotel except the Shilla duty free which is a good shopping area but close at 8pm and a mini mart down the hill. Accross the hotel there are many restaurant, just that need a bit of walking if in the day time they provide car to drive down and up the hill. There is free shuttlebus to Myeongdong and Dongdaemun not too far from the hotel. Nevertheless I will still go back to the same hotel.

So far one night into a 5-night stay, the Shilla Seoul does NOT measure up to either the Signiel Seoul/Signiel Busan or Ritz Carlton-level hotels. We should have just stayed at the Signiel. Rooms are uncomfortably small, some unacceptable in terms of non-modern conditions. The only saving graces are better breakfast selections (although uncomfortably crowded at 8:30 am) and picture-taking opportunities outside next to the hotel at the Korean-style pagoda and wedding hall vicinity. Expedia also has to do a much better job allowing folks to change reservations (particularly shortening reservations) without penalizing customers by charging exorbitantly more for same reservation minus 1-2 days. As one example, Expedia wanted to charge me $50 extra to shorten an existing reservation by one day. As another example, breakfast has fallen off the original reservation rate because I shortened one of 6 rooms booked. Expedia needs to work with the hotels to benefit the customer versus only Expedia so may need to consider booking directly as well! I am awaiting to see whether the hotel (and by extension Expedia) adds back breakfast to the current reservation…
