We enjoyed our stay at LegaSea! The house was perfect for our needs and the check in/out process could not have been easier. We noticed a cracked threshold when we arrived and simply texted Carolina Retreats and they sent someone out right away to repair it so no one stepped on a nail. They were always so courteous and timely in their communication with us. The house was very clean, well stocked, and was closer to the beach than it appeared in photos. Thank you for a great week!
After reading the reviews for LegaSea, I was a bit apprehensive about the location, the beach, and the house. Once we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see how cute and beautiful the place was. While I agree that some of the decorations and beds felt a bit "tired", we had no trouble winding down and getting comfortable. The only thing I would have liked to know about, was the lack of toiletries/sundries. We arrived with only 2 rolls of toilet paper and zero hand soap. Considering the times were in, I assumed hand soap would have been in all the bathrooms. It also lacked beach items such as toys/ buckets/ beach towels/chairs... which again was only realized after we got there, but its location is close enough to the souvenir shop to get what we needed. The beach was wonderful, lots of shark teeth and seashells to fill our afternoons then we'd head the 15 mins into Surf City to get a bite to eat.
I think my favorite part of the house was all the bedrooms having their own bathroom. Great perk when traveling with different groups of family. The whole house speakers was also a great touch!
Overall we enjoyed the home very much and the memories we now have there!

House would be great with a few updates, but beach is sad
This house is nicely laid out (every bedroom has its own bathroom) and the decor is charming. A few upgrades would go a long way. For example, the TV in the main room isn't a smart TV, so no Netflix, etc. New mattresses and window coverings - that morning sun is bright! - would be helpful, too. It feels like some investments are needed so that the furnishings keep pace with renters' expectations for a house at this price point.
The more difficult problem to solve is the erosion of the beach. Other parts of the island seemed to have fared better, but in this area, the beach has been narrowed to a little strip. It must be worrying if you're an owner, and it is a little depressing as a renter.
Points faibles : Communication, emplacement et exactitude de lâannonce.
Listing was deceitful
Start with the positives: loved the decor and the kitchen was well stocked. Now...the things that ruined this:
My âother motherâ was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and canât take some crazy vacation during COVID. She wanted to be beachfront with a hot tub and wrapped in a furry blanket fireside while reading a book and smelling the beach air. So, I set up the filters on VRBO to include 1) Oceanfront 2) hot tub and lastly 3) Fireplace. I went a day early in order to sanitize the home because of her compromised immune system, as well as to meal prep for the week. Imagine my surprise when I arrive and the home is actually second row. I worked on trying to get the fireplace started for about 30 minutes. Having used a fireplace many times, eventually I assumed it was not an operator error, and that the fireplace was not working. At this point, I am frustrated and decide to get in the hot tub. However, there was no power to the hot tub, or to any of the outside lights on the âocean VIEWâ side of the home. When I was able to get up with the property manager, Jessica, the following day, she wanted to explain to me that LEGALLY the home is ocean front because it has direct beach access. She also informed me that tenants are not allowed access to the fireplace, however, could possibly get one of the little electric ones that put out heat. Lastly, she would get the hot tub fixed. With that said, the hot tub did not work all week. She explained that it is VRBOs fault that the listing is wrong and that they take no responsibility as I should have went to their direct website, instead of trusting VRBOâs (which is the source that I trusted since that is where I booked it from). I do feel that this company and this property is misleading the general public and the NC Real Estate Commission should be involved in this, as there should be some legal recourse. I would never have spent a huge nightly premium during off peak for a 5 bedroom when all I even needed was 3. I did this because of the way the home was represented.
