Waterwheel Lodge near Sturgis is the perfect location to call home while touring the Black Hills of South Dakota. The adjacent working water wheel, pond with picnic area, and cedar bridge offer a picturesque setting for this beautiful custom log home. This log cabin is located off a dead-end frontage road with minimal traffic on an oiled gravel service road one mile from Sturgis offering easy access to I-90. Waterwheel has a queen bed in each bedroom with a queen sofa sleeper in the loft. Enjoy your favorite movie on the 50-inch flatscreen TV with DVD/Blu-ray player in the loft. Additional amenities include air conditioning, free WiFi with phone service, a gas grill with a private hot tub on the patio, a game table, Satellite TV VCR/DVD, two fireplaces, and softened water.

Comfortable cabin

The cabin is very spacious and comfortable! The beds were so comfortable to sleep in! My kids enjoyed having the upstairs to themselves.

Perfect weekend getaway

Plenty of room for large groups. Beds were some of the most comfortable and clean. Only drawback was refrigerator needed a good cleaning due to a blood spill causing smell and weird film on all the glassware.

Very relaxing place; near the highway but not overly loud. Place was very clean and beds are comfy. There is adequate towels and hygiene products. Nice view of the hills from the upstairs balcony. Close to everything you need to do in West South Dakota

Waterwheel House

The house was very clean, the beds comfortable. The house is close enough to the interstate that it can be hard to have a quiet conversation on the front porch. Other than that a nice house and stay.

The kids loved the hot tub. The beds were very comfortable and nice sheets, and it had a pack and play in the highchair which worked out great! Didn’t feel like we were all on top of each other. We all had our own rooms which was great.

Nice but could’ve been better


There were 4 of us that stayed, 2 adult couples
We stayed 3 nights
 The dirt road to the house was harsh on our vehicles
 the waterwheel was not working, there wasn’t a drop of water in the pond while we were there
 From the moment we arrived, flies were a problem
 I believe something is dead under the porch by the putrid smell on the porch..and maybe that’s why the flies are so bad
 House was pretty clean, and lots of things provided by host like towels, TP, laundry soap, dishwashing soap, etc. Also, beds were very comfortable. A couple outlets didn’t seem to be working, and the master TV has bad internet
 we couldn’t even watch a full show on Netflix.. that was annoying
 The upper balcony is unsafe.. the wood is scary to walk on and the railing wasn’t safe.. be careful up there! It could’ve been a little more kept up/nice for the price.. kitchen chairs have rips in the seats, etc. We did enjoy our trip, but had higher expectations for the price we paid
