“Rhulani” means “Be Peaceful” in Tsonga, and the name holds deep personal meaning. In 2015, our family travelled to South Africa and visited Rhulani Safari Lodge in the breathtaking Madikwe Game Reserve. We fell in love with its serenity, beauty, and the feeling of total escape. That journey planted the seed for what would one day become our own Rhulani, a dream we brought back home and brought to life through the thoughtful renovation of this bespoke lodge.



Throughout the lodge, you’ll find photos from that special trip, and many of the furnishings are authentic African pieces collected during our travels, and others lovingly sourced afterwards.



The fully equipped kitchen includes a Smeg coffee machine for your barista-quality morning brew, a microwave, fridge, blender, gas cooktop, oven, Webber BBQ, and a stunning Ooni wood-fired pizza oven. We provide a generous starter pack with essentials such as fresh coffee beans, milk, honey harvested from bees right here on the property, marshmallows, olive oil, salt, pepper, and more, all for your convenience.



Enjoy breakfast or meals at the beautiful timber kitchen island or step outside to bask in the morning sun across the immersive outdoor spaces.



The open-plan living and dining area features a plush leather sofa perfect for lounging, a smart TV with Netflix and Stan included, a sound system, and a two-seater dining table. Climate control is taken care of with a split-system air conditioner, ceiling fans, and a cosy indoor fireplace, perfect for year-round comfort.



The bedroom boasts a plush queen mattress with premium Blessed Earth organic cotton linens, a ceiling fan, and direct access to the deck. Wake up to breathtaking views of the surrounding trees and valley.



The bathroom is a calming sanctuary in itself, adorned with striking Moroccan tiles and finished with elegant gold fixtures. It includes a river stone basin, shower, toilet, and luxurious details such as premium cotton towels, face washers, and soft Rhulani bath robes, all while offering peaceful views of nature through the large window.



The highlight of Rhulani Lodge is undoubtedly its stunning outdoor areas, all fully private and thoughtfully designed to allow you to immerse in the landscape.



~ The front patio features an Alpine massage hot tub, ideal for soaking and unwinding, especially in the cooler months.



~ The main deck, which connects seamlessly to both the kitchen and bedroom, includes a comfortable daybed, a four-person outdoor dining table, a Webber BBQ, and the Ooni wood-fired pizza oven, perfect for lazy afternoons or starry dinners.



~ Venture down to the fire pit and grassed area, where Adirondack lounge chairs invite you to toast marshmallows (firewood included) and stargaze in total seclusion. In the quiet of the morning, make use of the supplied yoga mats to enjoy a serene yoga session surrounded by nature and birdsong.



~ Continue to the Alpine sauna and outdoor shower zone, a serene retreat space that invites complete relaxation as you look out over the dam, valley, and treetops.

Guests have full private access to Rhulani Lodge and all outdoor areas, including the hot tub, sauna, fire pit, deck, and surrounding grounds. There are no shared spaces, allowing you to fully relax, unwind, and immerse yourself in nature.

You will need a car to explore everything wonderful that this region has to offer!



Other Things to Note:

🚨 Rhulani Lodge is fully private and completely separate from the main residence. While we do live next door, your retreat offers complete seclusion and privacy throughout your stay. We're nearby should you need anything, but otherwise, you’ll be left to enjoy the space in peace.



🐶 Meet Nyla: Our friendly short-haired German Shepherd, Nyla, lives on the property and you may see her wandering nearby. She's ball-obsessed and always up for a game, you’ll find tennis balls on the deck where you can throw one down the valley for her to fetch. Just a friendly warning: once you start, she won’t want you to stop!



🪵 Firewood: A complimentary starter pack of firewood and fire starters is provided for both the indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Additional firewood is available for purchase at $20 per bag.



⚠️ Rhulani Lodge has been fully renovated and is ready to welcome guests. However, some works are still underway on the surrounding acreage, such as the driveway, nearby residences/ sheds, and garden areas, these will not impact your stay in terms of noise or disruption.



🌲 Rhulani Lodge is nestled in a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by native bushland. As such, you may encounter some of our local wildlife, including snakes, spiders, insects, and the occasional reptile/ wallabies. When staying please keep doors/ fly screens closed and take care when moving around outdoor areas. It’s all part of the charm of staying immersed in nature.
