Penshurst Place & Gardens

A testament to the enduring legacy of British aristocracy, Penshurst Place & Gardens offers visitors a captivating exploration of one of England's oldest family homes. With origins dating back to the 14th century, the grand manor house and its 11 acres of Elizabethan walled gardens provide a snapshot of the English country life of yore. The rooms of the manor house, each a treasure trove of period furnishings, exquisite tapestries, and historic portraits, bear witness to over 650 years of lineage. The gardens, meticulously designed, serve as verdant canvases expressing the seasonal shifts of nature.

Tonbridge Castle

Situated in the heart of Kent, the imposing Tonbridge Castle, a motte-and-bailey fortification, has overlooked the River Medway for over 900 years. Constructed in the 11th century, the castle was the birthplace of the influential de Clare family, including Richard de Clare, known as "Strongbow," a key figure in the Norman invasion of Ireland. An engaging audio tour further weaves tales of notable figures like King Henry VIII and Archbishop Thomas Becket, and historic events such as Simon de Montfort's rebellion.

National Trust - Ightham Mote

Ightham Mote, a 14th-century moated manor house managed by the National Trust, is a beautifully preserved example of medieval architecture. Built nearly 700 years ago, it was home to medieval knights, courtiers to the Tudors, and high society Victorians. Notable residents included Sir Richard Clement, who hosted Henry VIII in the 16th century. Today, visitors can explore the great hall, crypt, Tudor chapel, and the drawing-room with its stunning Jacobean windows, each part of the house holding remnants of the different eras it has seen.

Riverhill Himalayan Gardens

Famed for its collection of rare and exotic plants from the Himalayas, Riverhill Himalayan Gardens is a tribute to Victorian plant-hunting. Created in the 1840s by John Rogers, a friend of Charles Darwin, these gardens sprawl across the countryside, showcasing vibrant azaleas, rhododendrons, and the famed Blue Himalayan Poppies. The gardens also offer panoramic views of the Kentish Weald and further beyond to Sussex.

Hever Castle & Gardens

Hever Castle, dating back to the 13th century, is well-known as the childhood residence of Anne Boleyn, the second queen of Henry VIII. Visitors to the castle are drawn to its historic rooms and artifacts, with a highlight being Anne Boleyn's personal prayer books. These precious items offer a direct connection to the tumultuous Tudor era. The castle grounds are an integral part of the attraction, unfolding across 125 acres of stunningly maintained Italian and English Rose gardens.

Lovely Property
We stayed at this property for a couple of months while working away from home. The property was clean and tidy and exactly what we needed. The host was very responsive and helpful when needed. We would definitely stay there again if we are ever working that way again.
