Upon checking in, we noticed a strong odor (like something dead and decaying) in our bedroom. Later, we discovered that the closet seemed to be the focal point of the smell. Inside, we found a large box of baking soda, which appeared to have been placed there to try to absorb the odor. Since this was the only closet with baking soda, it seemed clear the issue was known beforehand. We had to close off the closet, move our clothes into the bathroom to keep them from smelling like dead animal, and hang them on the shower curtain rod. This was very inconvenient since we had to move our clothes every time we used the shower, but we adapted as best we could. Even after closing the closet door, it took two full days of airing out the bedroom before we felt like the air was clean enough to breathe comfortably.I am also still nursing a spider bite from our stay. While I understand the cabin is in the woods and critters are expected, there was an excessive presence of cobwebs and large spiders throughout the house—many of which appeared to have been there for some time. At night, we also heard critters clawing under the house as if they were trying to get inside, which made it difficult to rest peacefully.
