Rita and Sonny were excellent hosts. They were attentive, communicative and available when required. We only stayed one night and regret not staying for more. The ocean is right outside your front door, couldn't be any more perfect.
-- Bring water shoes for the Lava Rocks in/around the area
-- Went solo and had zero concern for safety everywhere I went.
--Rita/Sonny were extraordinary hosts. Sonny was most attentive and has a genuine kind soul. He was extremely diligent in responding to a question or request. Even laid out a coconut that had just fallen upon arrival and pointed out a lime tree for fresh limes adjacent to the cabin.
--The waves are so pleasant. I think most would want or book this place with the proximity to the ocean in mind but if it is something that bothers you the fans going drown the noise out.
-- Snorkeling is best at low tide and I would have to agree, it is like traversing through you're own large aquarium with several small and large pools in and around the lava rock. Fish, plants, and two eels were discovered!
-- You are just far enough removed but still close to areas of interest. I personally walked north and south several times down to the various playas, and they would only be a short drive otherwise.
-- 4x4 is not necessary but the final stretch of road (and others surrounding Playa Callejones) are not paved with various potholes. Go slow and navigate around and you'll be fine in a car. There is a 'main' paved road you can reach rather quickly.
-- Howler Monkeys were heard a handful of times!
-- The cabin has AC, all amenities, and would be perfect for a solo traveler or a couple that understands Pura Vida!!
Thank you!
Great place to enjoy the ocean in Costa Rica away from the tourist centers! Warm Pacific Ocean was literally 50 feet from the Cabina. The Cabina is a basic cabin with no frills as shown in the pictures, but very comfortable. The ocean waves can lull you to sleep or keep you up at night so bring earplugs. Rita and Sonny are attentive, gracious and laid-back hosts. We went at the end of April when it was hot and humid. Since air-conditioning is rare in Costa Rica, be prepared to take lots of showers to cool off or swim in the ocean (bring water shoes for the volcanic rock beach at low tide). We experienced a group of howler monkeys only a block from our cabin and on our last night, a huge four-foot green sea turtle was trying to lay her eggs outside our window -a rare sighting to experience!
Very nice beach, cabina and location. Both Rita and Sonny are great hosts very helpfull and friendly. Location is a little isolated, but great for relaxing. Tours do pick you up from there. A car is almost a must
This was our first stay In Costa Rica and we wished we had booked more nights here! Was so beautiful and comfortable and just an overall great few nights for our first Costa Rican experience! Would recommend anyone to come visit Sonny and Rita, wonderful hosts and beautiful property! We will be back! Thank you!
My daughter and I enjoyed every minute of our stay at Sonny & Rita's yellow beach cabin. We lived simply, naturally, and in sync with the ocean. Sonny is the most helpful, cheerful, & sincere host any traveler could hope to meet on the road. We left after our two week stay fully rejuvenated, deeply inspired, and brimming with gratitude for the experience. I recommend this sweet spot on the planet 100%! If authenticity, beautiful landscapes, and real culture are your fancy, then you absolutely cannot miss this place, it is a jewel in the wild, I will definitely return!
Cute, cozy little yellow cabin right on the beach. We loved and enjoyed our stay. What made our experience very special was the warmth and kindness of Sonny and Rita who acted as our guide, nurse, friend and incredible hosts. We'll definitely be back.
The best experience and "Pura Vida" in every sense of the phrase
I don't know where to start because this was such an amazing week. Let's start with Sonny - he is the nicest person you will ever meet and truly embodies the feel of the Costa Rican people, despite being from Chicago. He not only makes you feel so welcome and tells you everything you need to know about the town and the surrounding areas, but he is so responsive if you ever need anything or just wanna hear a good story.
Beyond the amazing hosts, the location is UNBEATABLE. You are literally on the beach, can hear the waves at night/AM, watch picturesque sunsets, walk to 3 other beaches, and it's is the most peaceful place I have ever been. The hammocks are amazing, the private beach is serene, and we met some of the most amazing people during our stay.
As Sonny says in his description, it is for those who are happy being in the beach and accept the things that come along with it... Pura Vida.đ
All in all we couldn't have asked for a better stay nor we could have imagined meeting better people. We will be back for at least a month on our next trip!
What a beautiful place to spend a few days. The cabin is on the beach, the waves at night sound like they are at your front door. Sonny and Rita are the nicest people you will ever meet! Stop looking for a place to stay and book this cabin already!
