About this property

Detached stone Farmhouse, 1/3 acre, stunning views, near lake and river beaches

La Grange is a beautiful traditional detached stone French farmhouse of 200 m2 situated on a hill in the Dronne Valley on the right bank of the river Dronne near Riberac in the Périgord blanc area where the climate is warm and temperate.

The traditional stone farmhouse and barn have been converted retaining all of the original features. The south facing, sunny property, has four double bedrooms, two at either end of the house making it ideal for two families to share. There are two bathrooms one either end of the house and a separate toilet. There is a traditional French farmhouse kitchen with wood burning stove. The lounge is 63 m2 with a full height ceiling and chimney breast in original stone with an open fire and french doors leading to the garden. There is also a snug with french doors leading to the garden. The grounds are in excess of a third of an acre with some trees much needed for shade in the summer. The house is on a hill and the views from the property and garden are beautiful, perfect for relaxing, enjoying a glass of wine and watching the evening sunset.

The Dordogne is one of the most visited regions in France, it is deeply steeped in history, littered with authentic castles, fortified towns and vineyards. There are 6 waterways across the Dordogne offering excellent water activities including canoeing, kayaking, sailing and fishing. France is known for its food, and the Dordogne region is acknowledged as one of the most important food regions of France. The whole of the Dordogne abounds with places to eat and you will never be far from something to suit both your taste buds and your pocket.

April through to October is undoubtedly the best time to visit the Dordogne. Spring brings warmth, bags of fresh market produce and beautiful flowers. Summer is busier and very hot but there are plenty of ways in which to cool off. September and October is less busy when crowds and searing heat mellow, and the grape harvest begins. For committed gourmets, the black truffle season, December to March, is memorable and after a long walk in the winter the open fire and wood burning stoves are an absolute treat.

There is so much to see and to do, the area offers something for everyone, whether you want to relax in tranquil surroundings, explore the local markets, enjoy the many walks and trails, take in some sightseeing, wine tasting or participate in leisure activities or more extreme sports. There are lots of local markets to explore and the Friday market in Riberac is extensive and well worth a visit. The nearby towns of Riberac, Brantome known as 'Little Venice' and Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne with its monolithic church are well worth a visit. There are lots of restaurants, cinema, open air swimming pool, kayaking, fishing, river beaches. La Jamaye is 20 minutes away and is a protected nature reserve with a large recreational lake in the middle of the Forêt de la Double with beaches and water sports facilities. It is a protected nature reserve of 210 hectares, the lake is 35 hectares. There is supervised swimming in the summer months, fitness trail, hiking, fishing, picnic area, play area. The lake is highly recommended, perfect for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying a snack or a meal.

The house is rural, within the small hamlet of La Courberie, but not isolated, there is a local shop in Villetoureix for essentials including fresh bread. Riberac is 3 miles with supermarkets, doctors, pharmacies. Travel links are excellent, 55km (40 mins) from Bergerac airport where there is excellent car hire available or fly to Bordeaux which is about a 90 minute drive. If you prefer to drive there are excellent ferry routes from the south coast. The drive from Caen is about 5 hours.

The ground floor comprises:
Open plan 63m2 lounge and dinning room with double french doors to the garden with exposed stone and lots of beams, snug with beams, TV for watching DVD's only, DVD player with a selection of DVD's, double french doors to the garden, equipped kitchen with woodburner and with exposed stone and beams, washing machine, cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, ironing board/iron. There is a downstairs shower room with toilet. The house has Wi-fi.

The first floor (above kitchen) comprises:

Mezzanine landing (above snug and lounge/dining room) comprises:
Bedroom 3 with beams: double bed overlooking garden with stunning views

The garden is 1/3 acre where you can relax on sun loungers, enjoy the peace and tranquility whilst enjoying the stunning views and beautiful sunsets. The large yew tree offers much needed shade in the summer. There is an eating area, two very large tables, one which can be moved under the yew tree. There is a BBQ for eating and drinking al fresco. For entertainment there is a table tennis table and there are other garden games as well as plenty of board games and books. There is ample parking.

Cas france business trip
We found the property well appointed, hot water issue was sorted quickly, and I can't complain about the response either, very good, location was ideal and the view early in the morning was great, and again in the evening as the sun went down.

Amazing traditional farmhouse
Easy booking process with clear online instructions. Julie, the owner, was very helpful, answering all our questions about the area and things to do. A well resourced, beautifully furnished and cosy farmhouse. With comfortable beds and soft furnishings. We loved the full size table tennis table. The snug was particularly welcoming on a return from a days out. Magnificent views across the French countryside. Tranquil location. Ideal for outdoor living. We enjoyed BBQ' ing on warm sunny evenings. The farmhouse is well situated for all amenities from supermarkets, local produce markets, local shops, restaurants and bars. The layout of the house lent itself very well for two families with bedroom's being at either ends of the house, giving privacy for both families. The bathrooms are well equipped.

A great holiday in a lovely house
We had a wonderful and relaxing 2 week stay here. The house was spacious and comfortable with a large garden & outside seating area; Julie was very helpful and accommodating , particularly regarding our 91 year old mother who came with us; she loved it. The Dronne valley is really picturesque, with Riberac & the shops only a 5 minute drive away. Many thanks to Julie & family for a great holiday.

Beautiful property
We felt that more accurate directions were needed to get to the house as it took us a while but the owner was contacted to help. Once there the property is wonderful, large with lots of space inside and out, bedrooms were comfortable, and plenty of outdoor space for relaxing with peaceful, lovely views, everywhere we went was easy to travel to and the roads are good with little traffic, The river beaches were refreshing from the intense weather we were lucky to have .

A beautiful farmhouse in a stunning location
We have just enjoyed a fantastic 15 night stay and would definitely return. The farmhouse had everything we needed, clean and lots of room inside and out.It is a beautiful farmhouse with stunning views in a rural location which was perfect for our stay. The table tennis was a nice surprise for our 3 daughters and they loved exploring the garden. We spent time at the property relaxing as well as walks from the farmhouse, exploring the surrounding towns, river walks and the nearby lake. The lake had good facilities and considering we were there during April, it was a pleasant surprise to find both cafes open which offered good lunches and snacks.

Wonderful house in a beautiful corner of the Périgord
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was full of character with plenty of room and a lovely garden overlooking fields of sunflowers. We had everything we needed and were delighted with the bottle of wine which was waiting for us on arrival. The location was perfect - not as touristy as some parts of the region but with easy access to many wonderful towns and cities. Would thoroughly recommend.

Idyllic farmhouse and location.
We stayed at the farmhouse recently. The property is located on a quiet country lane with the most amazing views overlooking the surrounding countryside. The garden borders a farmer's field where sunflowers are growing. There is also a cherry tree in the garden that had an abundance of ready to pick cherries. The farmhouse is idyllic with plenty of space to all get together or if you are looking for some quiet time then you can always sneak off to the snug. We spent most of our time outside - enjoying the views, playing football with our young grandson, playing table tennis, reading books, eating fab food and savouring the local wines. The location of the farmhouse is perfect for visiting some of the most beautiful towns and villages. Sarlat which is one and a half hours away is well worth a visit. More locally you can get to Riberac, Brantome, Bourdilles and Aubeterre sur Dronne to name but a few. On a practical level in terms of shopping as well as the local shops in Riberac there is also a small Aldi just outside Villetoureix and close to Riberac the E.Leclerc supermarket is certainly worth a visit. Julie the owner is wonderful and so helpful and accommodating as is her sister Lesley - who lives about fifteen minutes away from Villetoureix - I would just like to say thank you lovely ladies we had a fabulous family holiday and would love to stay at the farmhouse again in the not too distant future xxx

Very cozy home with a beautiful garden and a lovely view - we’ve had a lot of rest. We just regretted the beds that were not very confortable.
