Tawhiri-matea is the atua of wind and weather - you stand a good chance of meeting him when you stay in Waiouru.
Tawhiri may be the easiest place in New Zealand to find; we are the first gate you see when you come into Waiouru from Ohakune; the last gate before the 100kph sign as you leave.
You won't find anything else like this in Waiouru - self-contained comfort with a spectacular view of Ruapehu from your own deck. The Adventure Highway starts at our gate and the adventures you will find on it are limited only by the time you have to spare. Beautiful mountain view stay

We loved staying here and wish we could've stayed a few more days! Ross was so welcoming from the moment we got there. The views were gorgeous and the house was lovely. I would recommend sleeping with earplugs as there is a train the goes by at night, but otherwise the stay was fantastic. Would definitely stay here again.

Comfortable with Beautifull Views

Warm, comfortable and well appointed. The views were also beautifull. However access to the accomodation was difficult and we struggled to get our large suitcases from the parking area across the gap driveway to the entrance.

Gone the extra mile with a smile

We arrived early for check-in after a long journey, but we were met with a smile and allowed to check in. Ross went the extra mile, helping us with a few extras along the way and lots of local knowledge. The place was neat and well appointed. We had very cold weather but had ample bedding and heating. We would highly recommend.

Perfect home away!!!

Ross,our host was a great communicator and very helpful from the beginning of the booking. He helped me to amend the booking and gave us accurate directions to get to the batch. He was very flexible with our arrival time. He made us feel at home from the very beginning of our stance. He made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The batch was fully equipped, we couldn't ask for more. A five start overall, very close to ohakune and Turoa ski field. Highly recommend it. We will come back. Juan
