Home away from home
The Ivy Mansion is a beautiful brownstone building that is effectively a four unit bed and breakfast. It is truly mansion sized, with a lovely and comfy ground floor with a full kitchen that you are welcome to use. My room was quite large and the owner had recently renovated my bathroom, which had a great tiled glass enclosed shower with a rainfall shower head and great pressure. The queen size bed was very comfortable and I had an extra daybed/lounge that I didn't need but would be very practical. The owner/host is Dana, who is a lovely woman who lives on site. But she also has a day job so if you are looking for a full service hotel, this is not for you. She was still very accessible and contacted me each day to see if I needed anything. She offered to help with restaurants and guidance around town. And the location two minutes from DuPont Circle is a great neighborhood and convenient to the whole city. She also got me an onstreet parking permit for $20 so I could leave me car without worry. I would stay here again.

Less than local hotels in price & more in comfort!
I attend a conference at the Washington Hilton every year. This year, I opted to stay just 3 blocks away (toward DuPont Plaza) at the Ivy Mansion. What a GREAT decision. I am staying in the Terrace Apartment and it is wonderful. I have lots of space, lots of privacy, very convenient for sightseeing, visiting restaurants, and it's less than a ten minute walk to the Washington Hilton hotel. I'm saving money by staying here both in the cost of the accommodations and in the fact that I can prepare my own meals when I like. The owner is super nice, helpful, and makes you feel very welcome. I'm staying alone for this trip, but it would be ideal for also traveling with kids. I recommend this unique home away from home, and I will definitely be back.
