We had a great ride on the Durango & Silverton Railroad. Lots of snow melt and some whitewater rapids that were off the scale. Several avalanches have
occurred near train lines this Spring. We stopped for a couple hours in Silverton for quick bite to eat and shop. Silverton, CO reminded us of our recent inner passage cruise that stopped in Skagway, Alaska.

Mount Eolus and the catwalk to the peak! My first 14er. The hike up to Chicago Basin follows along the Animas River as well as the Narrow Gauge Railroad. You can hear the roar of the train from across the river as it approaches to drop hikers off in the middle of the backcountry to begin their hike.
One of the most secluded 14ers and well worth the hike!

Hiking up through Chicago Basin. Three 14ers sit perched above the basin. Waterfalls and mountains everywhere!
The Silverton to Durango narrow gauge railway cuts through the mountains in Colorado, giving a great view of the forest and river.
